Mentioned briefly in another post the subject of club site night vouchers came up and cost was compared

Firstly looking at out of high season prices.1 x club site night voucher costs £21.95 a rise of £5 over a camping cheque night and anything up to £10 more than ACSI. Even the sites own prices can be a lot cheaper

However booking a site in peak season using night vouchers it states that two vouchers will be required per night. That is now £43.90 per night

The last site I was on last week, at Pornic, charges for peak season were £29,50 per night, standard pitch, give or take for the exchange rate. The club charges are £34.50 for same week so where does the system of having to use two vouchers at £43.90 come from. Someone is making a lot of money out of that rule.

I paid by ACSI last week, price was €17 per night or about £15. 1 x £21,95 club night voucher is an increase of £6 again a handsome profit. ACSI price was 7 nights for 6 so even cheaper and just as a nice gesture they gave us a bottle of wine when we left.

The club offers this advice on Site Night Vouchers.

"Vouchers cost just £21.95 each and by purchasing the vouchers through the Club, you’re paying for your holiday in advance and at a fixed exchange rate. That way you won’t need to carry lots of extra currency when you’re abroad!" 

That's on hell of an exchange rate and do people really still pay by cash.

Does anyone think this system is value for money or do you stick with ACSI. I am not interested in discussing reduced ferry fares using these vouchers because that only seems to be on one route.

    I suppose it depends whether the purchase of the Club's cheques give you a useful saving on the ferry fare? If they don't, at around 25 euros each personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!!! Even if they do secure a discount that discount has to make the cheques worthwhile.

    No I don't think its value, in fact I think they're taking the........ (choose your own word) but maybe some people want to pay in advance especially if they are new to camping abroad and like the sense of security offered by the club.  Years ago (20+) we booked sites through the 'sites abroad' brochures as we had to travel in high season and wanted to be sure of sites and to cover the cost in advance - these days its out of season, no booking, tesco vouchers, ACSI etc.....

    Apart from those who buy the vouchers to get reduced ferry fares it all comes down to brand loyalty. The marketing team knows what a strong force that is. These are not just ordinary site vouchers, these are Caravan and Motorhome Club site vouchers. I bet they sell well.

    Much the same as meecee although I have never used camping cheques or vouchers of any sort so cannot comment on value for money but it does not sound good. I do usually buy the ACSI card but I like to stop where convenient so I do not always get value from that especially if my night stops have included Aires and Stellpaltz. In all probability on my next Continental trip I won't even bother with the ACSI card.

    The average club site out of season would cost £21 ish for 2 adults so for members who only use club sites or have no experience of travelling in Europe this would look good value. Thank goodness lots of us know better.

    That is expensive AD! I have not used any CAMC sites so far this year and I have had 105 nights away 74 of them on the Continent. The average nightly fee I have paid is £13,49. I expect that to rise by the end of the year as I fulfill my CAMC bookings. smile

    I think I just covered the cost of my ACSI card, saving about £12 on the 9 nights I had on the discount sites I stayed at.

    Yes I did stay on some Aires but not all are free and that is becoming increasingly so. I just use them for night stops anything longer and I use a campsite.
