Arcachon suggestions
Any suggestions for a site in Arcachon for next summer, July or August. We have a 13 year old, and like good quality sites, with decent pools, areas for the kids to enjoy like pitches, table tennis, tennis etc and occasional evening entertainment. Preferably close to sea or lake side.
Thanks

We have stayed at Camping Fontaine Vieille at Andernos les Bains on the bassin d'Arcachon, an easy walk/bike ride along the edge of the bassin to the town which is pleasant if a bit touristy. The site is rather 'informal' has good facilities and a nice pool area, a restaurant and shop but probably no entertainment etc. Arcachon has 'Camping Club Arcachon' which is about 1mile ish from the town - we've never stayed but it looks ok. There are several sites slightly further away on the coast near to the Dune du Pilat including 'Panorama du Pyla' a Yello Village site with many good facilities for families including pools and sports. These sites are terraced with pine trees and sandy pitches and are advertised with great views but steep climbs down (and back) to the sea, The sea on this coast (Atlantic) is quite rough and can be dangerous. The bassin is tidal, at low tide the water recedes a long way. There are also many sites on Cap Ferrat. Research and Google Earth are your friends! Good luck

We recently stayed at Camping Bimbo in Biscarrosse ville. Fantastic site, lovely pool complex, straight out onto cycle paths, and close to the southern end of Lac Cazaux which offers warm safe bathing. Probably twenty miles of pleasant drive from Arcachon but definitely worth considering. The beaches in, and just to the south of Arcachon are beautiful.

In May 2017 we stayed at Camping Pyla Panorama, a yelloh village site. Our son and family have been there 2 July/Augusts, and said it was great for kids and themselves. Its just south of Arcachon, which we thought was very built up and boring.
In May it was very quiet, but truly an amazing site. You are in a forest, on a steep dune, but terraced site, and in front of you is the sea, and sand, and hang gliders hundreds of them wafting overhead! All mod cons, restaurant, shop, pools, entertainment.
You must book, and it will be busy but has everything you could want. The beach is a steep climb down, and up! But fine for young legs.
