Camping cheques
I still have some cheques covering 2017-18, but they were rejected in France. Seems to be a big problem with the company!

Was it the old paper Cheques which were rejected? Or the newer gold and silver cards with a cash value stored electronically on them?

We used two 2017/18 paper camping Cheques on separate sites just last month. We had also emailed a third site ( which we didn’t go to in the end) who confirmed they did take them.
So I guess it’s very much on a site specific basis, and worth asking in advance.

The last site I used in france last week took Camping Cheques. I wasn't aware of this as I had no book for this year and had five cheques left from last year. I had gone to the site expecting to pay with ACSI rates. They accepted a split payment between cheques and ACSI for my 7 night stay.
Don't think I will be bothered about cheques any more now.

Greetings
I travelled out to Spain at the start of March and returned at the end of April and had no problems with payment by paper camping cheque. We stayed at 4 or 5 sites using CC as payment.
To be sure that the site still accepted/s the cheques I double checked on the Camping Cheque site and also visited the respective web page of the particular site, which usually had the camping cheque logo shown as a partner. We are off again in September and have already planned my route using CC for overnight stops as I have 6 and want to use rather than loose them!
It is appreciated that CC are now loosing market share fast - and I wonder whether the site which refused them is potentially leaving the CC network at the end of the year? That said I was told by one site that on a £15.95 cheque (purchase price) they only got 9 Euros so one can appreciate their reluctance at accepting them for a longer stay.
If I had a problem I would certainly tell CMC as they were the cheque supplier in the first place.

I had 5 paper cheques (that the CAMC provided this year with the ferry crossing), and 20 'nights' left on my Gold Card. All accepted in Spain without issue, but the site stated they would only accept paper cheques of the type without a price printed on them (which were the type I had). I wont be getting any more as they aren't popular with sites, and the number accepting them reduced massively this year

They were paper cheques, but the site manager said the computer did not recognise the numbers on them. Is it worth contacting the CAMC?

Its certainly worth a try, if you purchased them this year from CAMC. Unfortunately, CAMC appear to be the poor relation with regard to the French organisation who run the show. Previously when I have had queries, the CAMC have suggested I refer them directly to France (who are very slow and poor responders in my experience)
When I handed my 5 cheques over to the site this year, nothing suggested to me that they checked any numbers, and as far a I remember, neither do other sites. Provided your details have been filled in, that was the extent of it. Possibly the site you used didn't fancy accepting them, as they are poor value to site owners, and a long wait to get paid also

We have used paper cheques for a number of years, but not this year. However, it's always been my experience that they just take them from you, count them and that's it. I've never seen their numbers being inputted in a computer anywhere. It sounds rather odd; I'd contact CAMC, but as the previous poster said, you'll probably be directed to the French office, but I'd still persevere, as if it was me I'd like to get to the bottom of it.

I suspect lagerorwine is right. The site has a new owner, and didn't really want these cheques, so i had to pay cash!
