How busy will Europe be July & August
We find we have a chance to go to France initially then elsewhere end of July and into August. Just my wife and I.
From your experiences how busy will it be and where should we avoid? Thinking that western France, the coastal areas, will be too busy, was thinking of starting in eastern France then on from there.

The beauty of France is that it has over capacity in campsites. If you don't mind the less touristy parts of France I could imagine you would find space reasonably easily. Municipals are always a good option as they are more inclined to have a turnover of units on a daily basis although it might be sensible to turn up by early afternoon. Also best to have a Plan B!!! How about motorhome aires (not motorway aires)?

Just go. We went like that for years and I can only think of a handful of places which turned us away. Take comprehensive Sites guides and Aires guides. Avoid famous places. Avoid beach fronts and lake sides. Avoid expensive sites as they tend to be more fully booked than cheaper sites. Stop early in the day. .Enjoy yourselves.

France gets very busy on the coasts in the second half of July and first two weeks in August. The same applies to inland "honey pot " areas like the Ardeche; Provence; and Dordogne. There will be plenty of inland town sites that will have space at this busy time, just phone ahead or turn up as early in the afternoon as possible. After mid August even coastal areas start to empty out. I agree with Eurotraveller's advice.. ..Just go- you will have a great time.

I wouldn’t book unless you want to go to a busy area. Avoid the Med. and other coastal areas. Eastern France should definitely be quieter but parts of Alsace will be busy.
