Lake Como
Does anyone have any recommendations for campsites in Lake Como?
We are looking for somewhere either Varenna or Lierna.
Thanks

Can't help with those places on Como but we have stayed here http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/camping_la_riva.htm which is at the northern end of the Lake at Sorico

We too stayed at Sorico. It’s a pleasant site with pool and bar/cafe. Some pitches looking on to water.
there a few restaurants within easy walk, including a delightful Italian mama restuarant (out of site and turn right but cannot recall-name) where mama couldn’t speak a word of English, but food was endless and good.
we approached from the north via Switzerland and roads all ok.

Can’t help with Como but if you are looking at the general area then Maggiore is well worth considering. A stunning lake with several good sites and many places to visit. Cannobio is only 9km down from Locarno and is a lovely town and much more accessible than Como. We return to the lakes year after year. Good luck.

IMHO, that area whilst being very interesting (Bellagio, Varenna, Colico, Como, ice cream and boat trips on the lake and Moto Guzzi museum at Mandello Del Lario) is difficult for caravan sites.
Pitches are generally small.
The best (but not up to CAMC standards) again in my opinion would be Rivabella (Google maps) We looked at it when we were at Camping Riviera several years ago which, despite the friendly efforts of Marco the owner meant that we had to use our own facilities as the on-site toilets etc were way below our standards.
I recall that Camping 2 Lakes was at the end of an EXTREMELY narrow road (visited in the car) and Camping Spiaggia was pleasant inside but has an EXTREMELY severe drop off the main road.
For all of that above, I hope others can confirm or otherwise and possibly suggest other sites for you.

Edit (ran out of time to alter): Just looked on the website and it appears there may have been some improvement in Camping Riviera toilets (which would be very welcome)
All of the sites would need to be checked carefully both via their website, Google Streetview and maps reviews.

I would imagine a trip to Como would provide some magic moments.

We stayed last year at Camping Magic Lake at Dongo, a small site with direct access to the lakeside path on the west side of Lake Como. The pitches were smallish (typical for Italy) but nice. The road along the lakeside was fairly narrow with overhanging rocks, blind bends + maniac drivers from the other direction which made driving exciting. Dongo was not very interesting but had a boat terminal with access to other places. We moved after 4 days to Cannobio on Lake Maggiore a place we've visited before and which we much preferred.

Hi, like others no knowledge of sites in those locations but can recommend a look at Camping Rannochio at Piano Porlezza.
It is on a small lake which is part of a nature reserve, has small but good pool and bar/restaurant and is only a mile or so from a decent size supermarket.
Mennagio is a short distance and I think you can get there by bus from close to the site. From there you can take a passenger or car ferry-Varenna Bellagion etc-and the town itself is very pleasant.
We often stay on a big busy site at Garda and this was a very nice alternative in a beautiful area. The only downside is getting there as roads can be very narrow and busy but the route from Switzerland along Lake Lugano has been improved sice we visited by the construction of a road tunnel by-passing the narrowest bits.
