Caravan cleanliness

I am wondering why there are no facilities to clean the body work of our caravans when on sites. Most caravaners have pride in there vans but, most of us store our caravans in storage with no washing facilities. Does anyone else feel the same as we do that we should have an area to wash there caravan should they wish to.?

We have washdown facilities where we store, and it has as other cc storage had to be upgraded at high cost to cover enviromental concerns to the same standards with special filters as car washes are req to be,so to put them on sites would be even more costly than the Motor caravan waste points that are being installed, because of poor waste outlets fitted to most M/caravans

I do not agree that there should be caravan,or motor caravan washing facilities at sites, and you could well be one of the few that use them, as i have yet to see a dirty van on sites, and as we do if it has been a "dirty journey" you are entitled to rinse you van with plain water on your pitch,

Washing vans, or cars, on pitches is not allowed other than cleaning for safety reasons - ie, lights and windows.

Most sites do not have space to accommodate special wash down facilities and I suspect the cost of installation and maintenance would not justify the use they would get. People aren't likely to take caravans off pitch to wash them and most won't want to be bothered on arriving at the site after a long journey or before setting off on the next journey.

It would add to the wardens' workload and anything that increases warden hours on site will inevitably be reflected in site fees which will then bring forth more complaints about prices.

I’m not sure that 'most' people use storage facilities - just take a look at the number of vans parked on drives - but a lot of storage sites do provide washing facilities.

I don't know about the OP but the last thing I want to do on site is wash the van.

Its cleanish when I leave home and if it's a mucky journey, it may get a quick wipe down, and would people really bother to move their caravan to wash it. (A m/home maybe)

Where would the other occupants go whilst the washing was happening etc? Would everyone sit in the van without power?

Have never seen a caravan wash facility on any site in UK or mainland Europe; nor do I want them.  This is a completely impracticable suggestion with cost and environmental implications.  When I leave home my caravan is clean.  If the front gets really muddy en route I may get a bucket of water and wash it with a sponge (not on Club sites of course!), or use a dry wash cleaner, otherwise it will just have to wait until we get home.  You are on holiday after all.

The C&MC could hire their own Eastern European crew to hand wash the LV’s, say-£5 per small C/van

                          £7 per TA

£10 per Moho. Go for it I say👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😎

    Not fair!

My MH's smaller than many caravans. Charge by the metre, I say. 😎

Our storage people will wash the van, including roof, for £20. We usually have it done every so often but it being gleaming when we pick it up the front of the van can be pretty dirty when arriving on site, so often think what's the point but at least the sides are usually clean and that's useful if we put the awning up. Holidays are too precious (for me) to wash my clothes on site never mind the van.

I wonder whether the OP would be better off lobbying his storage facility owner to provide washdown facilities. He could point out the benefits of keeping his storage customers happy and, with a little research, point out how much use it would get at £x per wash.

yes as I've said we get ours to wash the outside but they will also valet the inside as well. It's the grown up children of the owner. A full inside and outside valet is £60. There always seems to be someone having their LV done in the special bay they have.

Sounds like a good scheme to me and the way to go rather than spending precious holiday time cleaning.👍🏻

Are you bored on sites then, as the last thing (unless really dirty from journey) would be to "clean" a car or caravan on site if i kept them at homewinkand then as per instructions only plain water or waterless cleaners can be used to stop fouling of the pitch with chemicalswinksurprised

My towed car does get very dirty in inclement weather, my answer is take it to the nearest car wash. There is usually a couple of methods of washing them at these and I have seen caravans being washed in those with manual wash facilities. I have even take my 8 meter motorhome to one once because it was so dirty.

Yes it would be nice to have such facilities on site but not at the expense of pitches or disposal points and they are not really necessary when there are external facilities available.

Alderstead Heath, where I store my caravan has a dedicated wash bay with hose pipe and an EHU bollard. No special drainage though the water just runs off the slopping pitch and into the normal drain on the site road which is the approach  for the storage compound and holiday cabin things they have there.

Thats interesting as several storage sites at cc sites had to withdraw their washdown facilities because the water companies had "advised?" they were not meeting foul water regulations,so had to be upgraded at considerable cost or not used,,the one in our storage has now got EHU and hoses on big concrete base with drains that have a filter system, similar to car washes

Four times a year I take my 6.5m. M/H to the delightful E European lads at my village car wash who charge £40 for an outside clean. Mind you they do the roof as well and make a superb job of the whole vehicle.

Whenever I stop by in my car at the shop on the site they nip over and clean my windows.

That may be the the case but in many countriies "over there" you are not even allowed to wash your car on your own property or on the street which is perhaps why you find wash facilities on sites?

The Eastern European car wash near us,is very busy and caravans and motor caravans are often noted in there usually about March time after the "winter lay up?" and often see council vehicles in (no bin lorries yet) both local and county

,ps they have had to have a filter system for their "dirty water installed

If you can still find the door handle, and don't need the lights on inside during the day, the van doesn't need cleaning.
