Well France beat Argentina.  As the famous Lloyd Webber song goes:  Don't Cry 4-3 Argentina.  😀😀

Love Croatia, been there with the caravan a couple of times. So pleased they overcame the boring and stubborn Danes 😀

And Brazil beat Mexico at what looked like a canter (they'll be a tough nut to crack 🤪😉)

The best 45 mins, second half, Belgium vs Japan of the tournament for me even though 3 ex Evertonians had a huge influence on the game! Breathtaking stuff!

Its been a good World Cup so far very entertaining. The France v Argentina game was one of the best games I have watched for a while and last nights Belgium game was great too.

I don't understand why Colombia still have 11 on the pitch. Dirty team. Certainly not cricket 😉. Everything I dislike about the game these days sealed even VAR doesn't assist they carry on regardless and it isn't acted upon. Not just this match.

That was tough to watch. At least the best team won. Columbia were cynical and got away with dirty play. Ok to head-butt, apparently.

Merciful  Heavens,  That  was  some  brutal  match yell.

At  least  the  England  team  kept  their  cool  more  or  less,  but  I  do  have  to  congratulate  the  Referee  for  not  losing  control.  It  would  have  been  so  easy  for  him  to  back  down  in  the  face  of  continual  whining  and  arm  waving  then  it  would  probably  have  been  even  more  cynical.  sealed

Right  now  I'm  just  wondering  what  The  Great  Otter  is  thinking  wink??

If I'd been ref the Colombians would probably be on minus players very early on. Starting with the head but incident and the way the team turned on he ref. They'd have been marched off proto.  I'd take no prisoners 😉😲

    Finally!!

Delighted England won - but what about those Columbians?? About time FIFA took steps to condemn such tactics, in particular the surrounding of the referee. Disgraceful performance, glad they're out and that England put them out

Seems the dirty, cynical teams have had their come uppance in this tournament. When Columbia played they were quite good. Glad England won and laid to rest the penalty shoot out misery.

Yes, was half hoping the whole Columbian team would be sent off, if "team" is the right word....

IT wasn't those from the USA first called this form of football soccer. In fact it was us Brits would first gave it 'name'.

Anyway, back to last night, not the best form of TV R&R but the last kick was a Dyer relief.

The word “soccer,” which is believed to have originated in Britain some 200 years ago, comes from the official name of the sport, “association football.” As other versions of the game evolved to include Rugby Football, it is believed the Brits adopted colloquialisms to distinguish each game.13 Jun 2014

While I am delighted England deservedly won, I can’t get carried away.

England needed a penalty to score, being unable to score in open play and once the Columbians dropped the stupid tactics of trying to intimidate and goad the England players they looked dangerous and created more chances than England.

A lot more improvement is needed before England become serious challengers.

I was told this many years ago and apparently it was 'our' public school 'boys' that named it soccer. They also called rugby union rugger! Never called that by the rugby league folk mind!

They allegedly had a preference for often adding 'er' to fellow school chum's surnames too. We working class types tended to add 'o' or 'y' though. wink Bit like a 'footy' game I guess which we called it!

I’m with you👍🏻. 2 outright wins, 1 draw/win, 1 loss & the media are screaming ‘in with a chance of winning’ it makes uncomfortable reading tbh☹️
