Sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of life on the site during the evening - people have mentioned guitar, sharing CDs etc. - but in general even noisy sites go very quiet after dinner. We have noticed when touring in Europe that many people will go to bed at 9.30 pm especially if they have a long journey next day. Any noise including talking that can carry outside of your pitch can be disturbing to neighbours.

Seems to me both parties are in the right for once! The folk affected had a, hopefully, polite word with the OP, who then responded respecfully. Problem solved.

If only folk who complain so often about things on here took the same approach we might not get so many of the regular moans! smile

The problem with playing music while talking with friends is that you tend to raise your voice over the music.

I'm very sensitive to noise, not all things annoy me but folk talking above the normal level is one, music (not mine) is another but the one that really gets my goat is listening to others tv especially when they have it on outside.

While on a site in France recently a German couple arrived 2 pitches down from us, they quickly unhitched the caravan then both set about getting the satellite dish set up and tv outside. It was the day Germany played (and lost) in the world cup. The noise got louder and louder as the game progressed. Mind you it was quickly dismantled when the game finished wink

Hitchglitch, I'd  love to go on the sites you use, 9.30pm going to bed in Europe I've never come across, mostly the Spanish are just about to start cooking their evening meal at that time laughing

I really don't recognize the wonderful world of caravanning from this thread apart from the one post by eurotraveller who appears to invoke the sprit of the campsite.

Off to buy some fluffy slippers in case I rustle the gravel too much on the next trip.

For the record I really like quiet, I don't play music outside (or inside for that matter).

    BUT

I am tolerant of others enjoyment, I have never had an issue of unreasonable noise, I accept that my choices of relaxation may be different from others, and above all else I accept that people on holiday are allowed to enjoy themselves.

We 're on a French campsite, and we had our music on, very low, last night, as did the couple in the French motorhome opposite, and a Dutch couple two pitches down.  There was an accoustic guitar playing at normal volume in the bar area.  No one seemed to mind, there was a low buzz of conversation, all over the site, nearly drowned by the noise of the birds overhead, and the frogs at the riverside.

However, if anyone had been upset by it, we would have turned it off.  Just as we have put out our barbecue when the smoke was annoying a neighbour.  Not all campsite annoyances are down to noise.

I'm just glad to be tolerant and not one of the 'many', who are probably a group that find laughter and enjoyment way down on their list, and seclusion a priority when camping.

Personally I have neither a TV nor a working CD player in my van, but have been known to watch others TV until they rudely pull their blinds down.frown

No idea why you should expect that those who dislike others music should be intolerant to laughter and enjoyment of others. Maybe just a 'smart' crack though?

Maybe because there have been far more anti views expressed, including comments about antisocial behaviour, than those remarking how good it is that people are enjoying themselves.

This thread reminds me of a slightly comical situation we once found ourselves in Italy. It was lunch time when we arrived at our site in Venice and very hot. We got the caravan on the pitch and proceeded to put the sun canopy up which required me to use about half a dozen pegs to pin it down. So there was me going about the task when suddenly a German women appeared at the hedge dividing our pitches complete with the printed rules of the campsite!!! There she stood prodding her finger at the rules about quiet at lunch times. I carried on and never heard anymore from her. I even mentioned it to the owner who in true Italian style shrugged his shoulderswink

I am not sure that background music adds a lot to animated conversation with friends laughing

What would it be like if everyone on site decided to play some music outside to accompany their conversation? Cacophony? Disharmony? It wouldn't work, would it? We could draw lots to see who's turn it was to play music. The wardens could play music over a tannoy system for everyone, just like a fifties holiday camp.laughing

So its now moved from one pitch playing music and another pitch objecting, to everyone playing their own recommendations for all to listen.

A noise is a noise is a noise, an irritant to some and not to others.

Now't wrong with Butlins in its day cool

It's nurse going round UK sites at 8.30 pm. with her trolley of bedtime tablets, medication and tranquillers for the old folk which disturbs me. Music in Europe no problem at all.

You're right ET, music's not a problem on the Continent: it's when johnny foreigner lugs his tv out his of van to watch under his awning. You get the noise plus the flickering light to shatter what peace you may be enjoying!

Humph! You clearly don't understand that we British can never be 'foreigners' no matter where we go!. You'll be suggesting that we learn their languages, eat their food and respect their cultures next. embarassed

Is it more or less arrogant to play music from a CD/radio/etc or sit outside your caravan with a guitar & sing praise to his Lord in the middle of the afternoon? I know I could have quite easily smashed his guitar 😠
