Satellite TV
My wife and I are heading to the South of France in a couple of weeks and were wondering if it was possible to watch UK TV through a satellite tv system. If so what type would we need. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Beg to differ on that DD, we have picked up uk tv all along the South of France. I'm talking all BBC, ITV, CH4, CH5 etc. on an 85cm dish. Ours is an Oyster 3 with autoskew.
Trees can be an issue but if non in the way then we got a good signal.
With a 1.8 - 2m dish you are talking Spain.

There was a duplicate of this thread in Introductions which I have closed but there are replies if people wish to see using this link.

We have also got UK FTA programmes as far south as Carcassonne with our 85cms automatic dish, without autoskew using Astra 28.2, I think.

Use the following address:
https://www.satbeams.com/footprints?beam=7492
Assuming you need astra2 cluster.
Pick the relevant satellite at the top (2E,2F, or, 2G) and select spot beam (KU Band)
Zoom in on the map.
At the spot you are touring in click that location on the map.
The details show you what dish you require.
In the real world the footprint is a bit pessimistic you generally can go down a dish size and get good reception but there are dead spots once you get to the south of France region and you will not get all the channels.

I've used my Oyster Caro as far South as the France/Spain border, but it will only pull in Freesat channels. I found Sky peters out mid France.

Hi domscap.
lots of good info here sky4caravans.co.uk
you don't need to have Sky. You may already have a TV with a satellite decoder, such as Avtex. Based on our experience of last four years, we lose terrestrial around Bordeaux. But we take a 66cm dish, portable tripod and our SKY+ HD box. We have been as far south as Auch in Gascony and still got Sky Sports and other Sky channels. No terrestrial or HD channels. But we could still access the recordings from our box, as long as we could find a signal. And for that I use Dish Pointer app on my iPhone. Try dishpointer.com for more info.
ah, sitting in the awning, watching England beat the Aussies at cricket. Doesn't get much better.

Slightly off thread to OP question but we now use this Satellite Mifi 3G & 4G receiver for our modest 2018 Wifi & TV combined use via an iPad. UK TV & Wifi anywhere really with a few fiddles & tweeks.

Totally flexible - use it anywhere in any vehicle, cheap non contract sim cards for the data. Very pleased with reception, fast speeds, product and easy usage.
We do also use UK Digital TV if available and in France we do have a French Digi Box unit - bought in error. Just given up on Sat TV and shocking site snail Wifi now.
For sale ! Sat TV Dish, stand, new receiver cable and 2 meters - going very cheap. Buyer collects.
