    Ok right not quite clear in your OP about that as I thought (and others did) that you meant on EHU? Now your saying it's on gas?

    Has the sun got to posters ? I've come in from the garden to have some lunch and catch up with CT , but why have I bothered yell, just lately there seems to be too many members having arguments and wanting the last word , frown, please get on with enjoying our trips away and less points scoring , meanwhile I'm going back out in the garden and look in tomorrow cool

    Then you should definitely switch off when not needed. I have found that in the summer the fridge uses more gas than the hot water (but you can’t do much about that). In the winter the opposite.

    not all DD, but if you had stated in your OP that you were talking about gas rather than stringing us (pulling legs I think you have admitted to before?) it might have been more helpful to you and the rest of us? I mean leaving that important part  till page 8 that it was gas rather than EHU does perhaps appear that way? Why did you let the thread go on so long before letting us know your true intentions?

    So what do you consider to be excessive energy use btw, you never answered?

    I certainly assumed electric. I certainly would not leave it on gas all the time, particularly abroad, for fear it would eat into our gas reserves. Nothing to do with cost.

    Not so strange DD. They make a dual use boiler. I assume if there had been a difference in the answer between gas and electric, they would have highlighted it.

    Your OP was posted on the CAMC forum. I don't think I am mistaken when I say most who use their sites utilise electric, in all but emergency situations.

    Plus of course your original post just asked why. Not if it was for energy saving.

    I don't want you not to post AD, I enjoy some of your posts about overseas places when I look in that section. Nor am I responsible for those who might "like" anything I post. I have explained the issue from my point of view, as politely as I can, and clearly there are others who seem to agree with me. Others may agree with you.

    Yes. Gas differs in some respects but the overall principle is the same; if the heating or hot water is on when it is not being used then heat is wasted to the environment. I mentioned earlier that our boiler heats up OH's bed as well as the hot water.  Quite nice in cold weather but definitely not when it is very hot!

    With gas boilers, not only will you waste heat if they are on all the time but you may get further inefficiencies.  For example,  our old boiler at home had a purge sequence every time it fired up so heat went through the flue so it was far better not to have it continually 'topping up'.  Condensing boilers are different and more efficient.  Don't know about Alde or other makes, all I can say is that our Truma hot water reservoir is not as well insulated as you might expect.

    Your gas supply is important off grid so use it frugally, especially for heating as it will disappear very quickly.

    I actually missed that M, shall have to take a look!

    To get back to DD's now fully explained request for information, we use our gas extensively, enjoying the freedom it gives us to use no ehu CL's and cooking/living while out and about. I suspect that your system is much more sophisticated than ours DD, but we certainly don't use huge amounts of gas being off EHU. It's our choice not to leave our water heater on constantly, but only when needed. That being an hour at most in the morning. No calculations or formulas to back this up mind. Just what we choose to do.smile
