To a lovely warden - thank you
So, having had a long running exchange of emails relating to my camper being used as a towing vehicle but having to have it's own pitch reservation I virtually gave up on using Caravan Club sites. Why pay for two pitches when every other campsite I ever used but the CAMC thought that was a nonsense.
Sometimes though the product offered for the price paid justified paying for two pitches so that I could tow our Caravan and use the camper as most use an awning, an extension of living space.
I pulled into this CC site and went in, "two bookings" I said. The warden looked out of the window, saw my diminutive camper towing my sister's little Eriba and asked "who's the other booking for?"/ I explained my countless discussions with Grimstead towers. "I've been working for the club a lot longer than most of them have" she said, "They've got it wrong".
She made a phone call, got the same brick wall that I had beaten my head against for months, but was determined. "The person I want is out, but tomorrow the right person is in".
Finally, off her own bat, no hassle from me, she got through to someone who could both make a decision and use common sense. "Disconnect the gas, don't cook in the vehicle, only one EHU used, and it's just another awning. If we applied the same rigid application across the board then we would also be insisting that every awning is erected 6 metres from the caravan".
My camper and my sister's caravan can now be parked next to each other, not on separate pitches, and we can all live happily ever after. The CAMC now has a customer returned to he fold. All thanks to a warden who just went the extra mile for a customer and common sense.
Thank you.

Excellent news OJ, at last common sense has prevailed! Good for that Warden. Looks an excellent set up.

Just out of interest. Why can't you cook in it? Many folk seem to cook in an awning. I can't really see a lot of difference. We use our Cadac for frying breakfast, under our pull out awning, if we had a full one, we would probably do the same with the door open.

Jen - are you at Cirencester by any chance? I think we might have swapped a "good morning" over in the dog field this morning without realising who each other was! Or maybe it was your sister?
I'm off home with Lady later on this morning but I'll pop by to say hello (possibly to a complete stranger ) before we go if you're still around.

You only have to see the pictures of the Fire last year at Broadway to see the damage to adjoining LVs when they were at the correct spacing, which would not be the case, with OJs picture if the camper was also not "insulated" by having gas and electric off

Well done that warden.

Jen, how will you convince the next (perhaps not so accommodating) warden that your set up is OK for one booking?

I think I'd be asking for something in writing from HO which I can produce each time I encounter this problem.

yes, Jill, this was my point....
in the past, some have carried a note around describing the different pitching options (sanctioned by HO) to use in a 'conversation' with over zealous wardens....
this subject has now been formalised with up to date pitching info (nose in, nose out) so the note has now become the updated 'rule'...
perhaps the 'rule' on this type of unit combination could be clarified and updated, rather than rely on 'notes' to debate a similar case?
a job for a Mod, possibly?

I agree that the club should clarify but that is for the club to do with a prod from Jen and others in this situation, but not a mod job's? I mean is it a moderator's duties to pass upwards any potential problems? Perhaps it is?

sorry, I meant for Jill to do the prodding, which must be in a Mods brief?
as you say, raising awareness, issues, etc...
a 'prod' from Jen (or you or me) is just a member looking to get something done, we all know how reactive the club is to personal requests....all mine have been ignored, you're still here, lol
only kidding of course.....

I think it's a case of all mine cancel out all yours?
Yes I see what you mean by Jill dong it. You think that Jill has more sway? Have you Jill? I really don't know? maybe they look at a mod's request with more favour, or quicker, one would hope so.

The CMC is very poor at communication. This subject has been raised many times on this forum and we have yet to hear any confirmation from Grimstead Towers as to what the official rules are for this situation. --- Just needs a few minutes of somebody's time to communicate, then everybody, including Customers and Site staff would all know, avoiding the disappointment experienced by the OP ever happening again.

Definitely don't have more sway but I'll 'report' the thread and ask for action by HO to ensure that all site staff are given the same information to maintain some sort of consistency on Club sites. That's all I can do.
