Canal de la Somme St Quentin to Valery sur somme
We are planning a trip to France late August/September with bicycles and have been looking at sites along the Canal de la Somme. The intention is to find camping sites at appropriate distances between St Quentin and Valery sur Somme and then cycle east or west from the site as far as we can. I have been on the internet and downloaded the route of the canal but would appreciate any information if anyone has cycled this area as I am unclear as to whether the route is cyclable from St Quentin to Perone via Ham. I understand it is a 120km cycle route as part of the Velo France cycle network. Many thanks.

Nothing to do with cycling but I can recommend the Historial at Peronne. A different perspective on WW1.

Peronne is on the Canal du Nord which I understand shares some of the route. This campsite

is adjacent to the Canal du Nord.

Municipal campsites to help you find cheaper sites along the route. Voie Vertes (official cycle routes). and the section of the canal which I do know is cycleable between Abbeville and St Valery sur Somme.

Near to St Quentin and near to canal is Vivier aux carpes.
It's popular with both CAMC and C&CC members.

Thanks David and Chasncath for your site details. I am still trying to establish whether the canal is navigable with a bike from St Quentin to Peronne and if so both look to do the trick. The site at Peronne is definitely useful as it seems a great site to start the route anyway with plenty to occupy us for a few days.
