Plymouth Ferry Port; Late night return stop?

We are returning from France via Roscoff to Plymouth, arriving in the UK at 9:30pm with a 5 hour journey home.

Has anyone else done this, if so where did you stay the night you returned? Is it possible to spend the night at the port before heading home early the next morning?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, plenty of room at the ferry port though you may find yourself in a pay and display area. The nearest campsite is Riverside Touring Park at Marsh Mills and you could ask whether they have a late arrivals area.

All Brittany Ferry ports allow over nighting for MHs.   You may be charged £5, if anybody can be bothered to collect it.    Look at their web site, it is covered there.     We have used Poole twice this year.

The only provision is that you dont park up in lanes that could be used that night for outgoing traffic.    Poole stipulates "not before 10pm", but we get there much earlier because no ferries leave at night.

Hi again, just to add, BF also allow towed caravans to park overnight!

Have stayed overnight a number of times at BF ports but always when waiting for a ferry not after getting off.

When I checked previously BF had information re parking at the ports on their website.

Morning departures  from Plymouth are easy- you line up overnight at the check ins just as you do at Portsmouth and Poole. But late night arrivals fromFrance into Plymouth are a different matter and you don't want to line up at  the check ins unless you are keen to go right back - hence my earlier post about going to a different part of the Plymouth port area.

I can't see if you have a caravan or a motor home. Riverside is a very good, but quite an expensive site, but it is easy to get to from the ferry port.

If you have a motor home, there are a couple of very large and fairly flat lay-bys on the A38 near Ivybridge that you might want to use. They are not too far past the Tesco hypermarket which will be on your left, so take your time and you will find them easily.

I hope that it is not too late to reply.

We had the same journey two years ago and for us travelling to the West Midlands the obvious site was Exeter Racecourse Club Site. It is adjacent to the A38 and from what I remember was not much over an hour's journey from Plymouth ferry port. It meant that we did not have to drive through Plymouth in the morning rush hour and we were over an hour nearer home when we did set off the next morning.

Prior to our travels, I phoned the site to ask about using the late arrivals area. The member of staff was most helpful, explaining that there was a very large area (without electricity) just to the left prior to the entrance barrier. As we wouldn't be staying on a pitch we would just need to pay the per-person rates and obviously we could use the facility block. We could pay after 9.00 am the following morning or, if we wanted to leave earlier, put the money and our details in an envelope and push it through the reception letter box. Although we couldn't book a late arrivals place, she did make a note of our details and the date we wished to stay.

It was all so easy and we were on our way home well before 9am the following morning. If we were to make the ferry journey again, we would again arrange to stay at Exeter Racecourse site.
