It has been announced today that Red Bull will move from Renault to Honda engines from 2019. Whether it is a gamble remains to be seen but the Honda engines have been doing quite well at Toro Rosso, the Red Bull junior team.

They've been installed at the McLaren stable for the past few years, notwithstanding this season's move to Renault and now they're going back to Honda again?? Not sure if Mr Alonso will continue with them next season given how poorly the engine performed last time.

Bet he wishes Toyota were still involved in FI, given his recent success at Le Mans?

With regard to Red Bull, very brave decision in my view.

McLaren don't seem to have done too well with the Renault engine which has won Red Bull a couple of races this season?

Wonder if Renault hadn’t had their own team if RB would made a different decision.  The Renault engine seems to have improved both in terms of performance and in reliability.  Hope RB don’t regret the move.

I hope so as well!! But look at it a different way, Red Bull will almost be a works team as Honda are only going to be supplying Red Bull and Toro Rosso whereas Renault are supplying engines to several teams as well as their own. I am sure there would be a suspicion that their own team will get the best engines. Look at Mercedes and Ferrari who also supply several teams and yet none of those teams have challenged either of those two teams. The Honda engine has proved  fairly reliable in the Toro Rosso and Pierre Gasly has not done too badly. You are right that it is a gamble but at least they will have the undivided attention of Honda which is not the case with Renault!

My son has been to the Renault engine facility in Paris a few times to discuss IT with them, not so sure he will be so keen to go to Japan!!! I think Honda F1 engines are based here in MK so maybe just a trip across town!
