we want to go to Croatia in August and wondered if anyone had been before - we would be going from Dover. Is there a preferred route that people have? What about sites the two that the club work with are they ok or can people recommend others?

would be grateful for any help,

many thanks

First things first, August is going to be extremely hot! We are in Split at the the moment with temps in the low 30’s!! Journey down here was Calais to Alzinghem, Luxembourg. Then down to Eguisheim/Colmar, across Switzerland( didn’t stop, weatherw wasn’t good) down to Locarno. Autostrada to Fusina, Venice next.we’ve done the trip down through Germany an Austria a couple of times and fancied a change this trip.

Round to and past Trieste and on down to Camping Fazana at Pula, Istria. Big site, good restaurants, easy pitches. Travelled from Pula down towards Zadar for an overnight stop. Found a dreadful little Autocamp near Starigrad, should have moved on! Next day down to Camping Kate at Mlini, site was full so ended up in a small site in Sreberano south of Dubrovnik. Defo not an upmarket site, but what a find! Water taxis 500 mts, to Dubrovnik or down to Cavtat ( lovely little town, so quiet after the hoards in Dubrovnik). Large supermarket 50 mts across the road. Good stop! Spent a week there. Met Brits who had stayed at Solitudo and for whatever reason they did not rate it. Today we’ve come up to Split, Camping Stobrec. Large site, good size pitches but some a bit tight for access unless you have motor movers. From here we’re heading up to Trogir for a couple of nights and then back round into Italy. There are ferries from Ancona to Split, or Bari to Dubrovnik as an alternative. The motorway system in Croatia is a dream!! Empty, smooth, our longest run on cruise control so far has been 108 miles!! Try that in the UK! The toll stations take uk credit cards, no problem! It’s a great country, the people are friendly, they all speak English.

Crossing the Neum corridor through Bosnia- Herzogvinia was very easy, two border crossings, no hold ups, 9klm one side to the other, but i’m not sure if uk vehicle insurers know that.

Anyway, you’ll love the country! The language and currency take some getting used to!

    Enjoy!!
