Just to let folk know that at the moment this site is closed and under renovation. We had intended on staying there earlier this week after several recommendations. There is not sign of it opening within the next month or so.

If you were/are planning to stop in this area soon best to find another site. We ended up at Les Sables a bit nearer to La Rochelle.

I assume that is the site at Chatelaillon Plage? We were there a few years ago and it would be difficult to see what sort of improvements could be made,i t was lovely as it was!

Is La Rochelle very different from the St Jean de Mont area? We are thinking of somewhere on the west coast in September prior to the Loire area but we hated St Jean de Mont region and wonder if further south is any different.

Right now we're at Camping le Cadoret, the municipal site for Fouras les Bains. We came for 4 nights and are staying for 5! It's an ACSI discount site for the first time. It's south of La Rochelle at the mouth of the Charente. Going to post a story tomorrow with some photos if we survive tonight's forecast ouragecool

DK, yes the one at Chatelaillon Plage. The site had diggers and other big machines, there was no one around and the place looked deserted but it was lunchtime.

LTC, I couldn't compare the two as we have not been to St John de Monts yet (more than likely next on list) we have been to the area round Chateau - d'Olonne and enjoyed the cycling.

chasncath, I looked at that site but OH out voted me and we went to La Rochelle laughing sounds as if it ticks the boxes. As I type this the rain has just started here after the most wonderful red sky at sunset. Will look forward to reading your story.

I went on their website today and there is nothing on there about it being closed. One thing I did notice is that they now seem to have some sort of accommodation in addition to the camping pitches which they didn't have before. The  approach to the site was a bit odd in that it is around the back of other buildings and they have a large car park area.

Which is why I posted this David. Place deserted heaps of sand and building materials all just inside the site entrance. Reception closed and not just as if they had gone to lunch. Pitches all overgrown, weeds everywhere and biggest hint, no caravans or mh's to be seen anywhere.

If this is the place it says its open from 20 June to 16 September. Acsi doesn't indicate that it is closed

If that is the case then they have a fair bit of work to do in the next 10 days, it certainly didn't look it the other day.

Beginning to regret posting the info, just thought I could give a heads up as it definitely was closed when we went. Acsi book says open from 19 May - 30 Sept. Oh well won't bother in future..

Please Tammygirl don't regret posting the information. Anyone thinking of going would much prefer to have information from someone who is there and can see for herself what is happening over what a website says.

Thank you for posting TG.  Although I’ve no intention of visiting the site it’s always useful to know stuff like this.

Hi Arrivakids, chasncath have put a story on about the site but it is in the acsi book No 1618 Municipal Le Cordoret at Fouras, it says its 500m from the town centre 15€ pn.

Re L'Ocean, I think if anyone is wanting to stay there then give the site a call, you never know they may be aiming to get it open for high season. Strange that there is nothing on their website.

The weather over the last month or so has been mixed, very unsettled with some good days but a lot of rain and thunderstorms.  Those regular to the area say the worst for very many years. The forecast is looking better for the next couple of weeks but to be honest the forecast has of late been more wrong than right.

We've just left Ile d'Oleron after 4 days of sunshine and 'eclaircies'. It rained through the night last night, but had cleared by this morning/ We also had lots of sunshine at Fouras and on the Ile de re before that.

Camping Le Cadoret at Fouras is ACSI for the first time this year hence the 15€. The swimming pool is open, you can walk to the town or take the bus to La Rochelle or Rochfort.

In winter the site has a size limit of 3.5 tonnes for overnighters. It doesn't apply in Summer as we saw plenty of bigger vans on site.

Weather in southern Brittany which isn't too far away is starting to pick up after a very mixed couple of weeks. Typical, as I am having to start thinking about the homeward trek.
