Hi. Trying to remember a site run by volunteers around 2003 mid country near the M1. Anybody help?

There used to be a CC site at Lutterworth, but I'm not sure if it was volunteer run.

Former CC site Stanford Hall near Lutterworth is still open and run by the estate. This was always a no facilities site and still is according to recent reviews on other forums such as UK campsites.

Up here in Scotland,  there are two which were a real loss.  The first one is on the banks of Loch Long called Argartan. Beautiful site in an area of outstanding natural beauty.   ----The second is the fantastic site in Braemar with great views and Great walking opportunities.  Shame those sites were given away.

That would be ‘given’ as in the owners not renewing the leases, eh? 😁😁😁

Sites come and go for a whole variety of reasons I guess, I think a couple of sites have only recently joined the fold if my memory is correct! Don't know the reasons why some in the past have been 'lost' mind!

    Is that Ardgarten...?...wink

The one that's been given over entirely to log cabins....?

    A bit of a salutary warning there isn't there.......frown

No TT, The site you are talking about is the Forestry Commission Campsite  across the river from that wonderful given away CC site. ---It's all log cabins, and very nice they are too. Have stayed there a couple of times in the winter, great sitting in the hot tubs enjoying a glass of wine with the snow falling all around. laughing

-There is now an Hotel built on the CC site which went by the name of  "the River Crow site at Ardgartan".

Ah, right I have no recollection of their being a CC site there, it looks like it would have been both a nice location to spend a few nights and a useful stopover on the trek further north.........

Out of interest, when did it cease to be a CC site, I'm surprised my dad never took us there on our annual pilgrammage to the Highlands....?

If I remember correctly, the site was still there when we became members 20 years back, but closed down  not long after that.

I think it was a no facilities site.

Cant remember exactly TT but we used it as a regular weekend retreat during the year, we even put the van on a seasonal pitch one year when my work involved Saturday morning working. A fairly long time ago, as we had the Avondale at that time and we've changed 3 times since then.

As a matter of interest there was also a C&CC site on the Loch within a few minutes walk round the bay from the CC site. The last time I was up there hill walking, it seemed to be closed as well.

Just the Log Cabin forestry site left, and as you indicated, a possible glimpse into the future.

The River Croe Ardgarten site was fine until the midges came out!! We've been nearly bitten to death there. The area was also plagued by ticks. We took nearly 50 off one of our dogs on one day when we stopped there.

The C&CC site has certainly gone too, K.
