I don't think anyone has said they don't carry any cash at all, merely that in most cases it's more convenient to pay for it all in one transaction. In the original post, it could just have been that the parent only had his/her card on them and trying to avoid a trip to the caravan & back with cash. Months ago I stuck a £5 in with my phone .... just in case ..... I've yet to need it. Maybe the CC still accepts cheques ..... 🤣

On occasion having cash available has saved me a lot of messing about.
In the last two weeks I was also glad of my reserve cash in the car glovebox. I set off to take youngest and her two lads to the park and for a meal. About 35 miles. About 10 miles from home on the motorway I realised that my wallet was not in my pocket. I needed to top up deisel when daughter did a quick Asda shop and pay for 4 meals and puddings. Luckily plenty of cash in car

I think by this far into the thread we've divided into two camps, those that have a fairly significant amount of cash on them or left in their vehicle & those of us who prefer to use a card....
And that is personal choice.
And I know it's already been said but there is an obvious crime prevention aspect & a health & safety angle as well.
If you have a lot of cash on you or leave it in your vehicle it will eventually get nicked, at least in some of the places I have had the "pleasure" of working, but I'm guessing some won't accept that point....
And if the Club is hoarding quantities of cash in site offices, indeed actively encouraging payment in cash, then with falling police numbers, rising violent crime and the distance of some site offices from civilisation, I can predict what's coming next. The Club has a duty of care etc blah blah to its staff, and this is a failing to my mind.....

Of course always a possibility. However I am unlikely to have much more than £150 in the car and if the car was broken into the loss of that amount would hardly be life changing.
I don't see it as two camps regarding card usage necessarily as I think most of us use the card for the majority of expenditure. Simple fact to consider if using wither of the clubs' sites to purchase gas (or owt else) keep enough cash available so as not to denude yourself of some readies

Fair enough, I understand the concept of having with you,or secreted, only what you can afford to lose.
But my amount is about £145 less than yours.....
Like MM, I keep an emergency fiver in the car & an emergency fiver in my phone case....!

We have often bought things from Club Site shops, those odd little things that may or may not be available depending on what the Wardens fancy selling. Some things are useful, pegs, guy ropes, gas, some things are very nice little extras, fresh baked scones, local ice creams, bread, local papers. It's happened as long as we have been members, and if the Wardens are happy doing it and making a little extra income from it, long may it continue.
Having all ones eggs in the same basket doesn't always pay dividends. We don't carry much cash around, or have it in the house. Pay for most things via cards or BACs. But we usually have a bit of something in change in each vehicle, bit of something in a wallet. Helps if you need to park up, helps if you want to use a public loo, helps if you are at a market or craft fair. Helps a great deal if card machines are down like VISA was the other day.

There is clearly no intention of assisting or encouraging site staff with the option of cashless sales. OK if wardens just want the site shop to be a little sideline with little input so be it. This probably means that except in an emergency members won't buy such things as gas or toilet chemicals from Club sites they will make sure they have them before arrival on site because they know they will have to pay cash.

I would not dream of searching off site for gas when it is available on the doorstep and so I doubt that many would

Am I correct in saying that you have often said that you don't use much gas and you only use 3.9kgs cylinders? I always buy locally to where I live particularly if I want a Calor Lite. The Calor Lite discussion of here seems to point to many others doing what I do rather than exchanging on site. No doubt the wardens will look forward to your continued custom?

I don;t use much gas. However there is no merit in my buying local rather than on a CC site. Like many who use EHU there is little to burn gas on!
If there are those who choose to get gas near home then it won't have too much effect if the warden wants cash will it?

I can honestly say that my gas never runs out on Club sites.

We are the same. The only time we have bought gas elsewhere, is when we originally rented the cylinders and once when it was going in for service, just after it ran out. Otherwise the convenience far outways the fact I have to pay cash, or the extra few pounds.

I have yet to find anywhere (go outdoors maybe after you have paid to join their "club) that sell at a lower price than calors retail price
I do know that Walls ice cream have two retail price lists the standard and "enhanced" for use by retailers depending on locality

Fully agree with you. If it's choice between paying cash and wardens not having a shop then that's a small price
to pay.Also, and perhaps this has been mentioned, the little ones were very upset really? very upset on not getting an ice cream? Mine might have been disappointed but a bit of skilful 'parenting deflection would have soon got round that?

Yep, I saw this this morning whilst eating my £2 bargain breakfast in Greggs, logged in to their free wifi, and breakfast paid for with my contactless card.
No faffing around with change, no security risk to Greggs staff.
Wasn't the gist of the article that only the pesky old timers use cash now....?

I'm guessing you were a bit more upmarket than Greggs then.......?.....
But most of the posher restaurants we frequent let you put the tip on your card payment as well.
