    Airlines still over book available flight seats knowing that statistically a few don't turn up. It's a common practice. They then entice 'bump downers' to take later flights by offering cash or other incentives. They assume someone will be tempted. The incentives get better until someone 'gives in'. Now where am I going with this??wink

    This has always been one of my main arguments against a deposit system.  I've always been pretty ambivalent about the idea of deposits generally, but I suppose one way of avoiding the 'I've paid so I'll lose it' scenario is to maintain element of what we have already in addition to taking deposits, i.e. keep the warning system if you don't inform the Club of your intention not to use the pitch?

    The other issue with deposits is that absolutely no refund under any circumstance clause. Not that friendly or sympathetic stance I'm sure for a club like ours to take should they choose to do so. Thing is I'm sure most who do cancel do so for their own very 'significant' reasons and if they don't have  'significant' reasons I'd bet many, knowing the rules of the game if deposits were refunded in certain circumstances, will definitely conjure some up!

    Yes, and for fellow members to be selfless, honest, sympathetic and understanding towards others. We also need to be aware of those who wish to upset the harmony that we all buy into by signing into our collective membership. Oh, if live was so so simple!

    For me its simple, if the site is booked then you are too late. Why should you get special treatment. What would happen if you booked earlier ? would we then have other people complaining that they couldn't book a pitch. I just don't get it at all

     A small deposit paid at booking  and What about pay in full 72 hours before arrival. If you don’t the booking is cancelled. Deposit lost. 

    And you can’t expect to leave site a few days early and get that money back either. That is also lost.

    I think that post could be a thread starter David. My personal view is that I would not wish to see any such conditions. 

    Many commercial sites use similar conditions and C&CC is not far behind in being a pain as regard bookings

    I believe that it is too easy to book,and too easy to cancel, if it took a little more effort like phoning and speaking to someone to book and also to cancel might make people think a bit harder, it is all very nice this armchair booking but it does bring its own problems,how you solve it is another problem,just a thought how about limiting booking one holiday in advance that could be 21 nights at different sites or one night only and can only book another holiday when it is taken or cancelled.

    As I use a mixture of sites and so when using 8 sites in a row on next trip 3  so that would be a useful way of creating pitch availability and reducing bookings as I would certainly not faff about like that.

    Increasing the late cancellation period to five days may help alleviate some of the perceived abuses.

    No problem with that, or even make it 7 days. Very few are likely to cancel for "genuine reasons" within that period 2 or more times a year, I'd have thought.

    After  the  TSB  debacle  as well  as  this  weekends  Visa  problems  I  think  your  suggestion  is  a  dead  duck  !!

    That is unlikely to solve the problem......

    If you wanted to stay for 1 night (the Friday or Saturday) it would still be worth doing, I would, but it would still be "blocking" someone who wanted a longer stay over a weekend.....

    The only way to stop the perceived "blockers" would be to have a minimum stay on the popular sites, as the C&CC do and some commercials....

    I personally would not want to see this as the USP of the CC in my opinion is the ability to "tour" with one night stays, albeit they often have to be advance booked.  

    And as I have previously posted, I will as often as not arrive on a Sunday or leave on a Saturday depending on family & work commitments as I have seen many others do, so not sure how much of a problem it is in reality....

    Would you class me & my other half  as a weekenders 😜…...we always book a full week Sunday …….to Sunday .

    As far has my memory recalls ….we have never cancelled a booking late & never been a No show .👍

    We also book 4 or 5 night visits Sunday to Thursday / Friday .

    I must qualify as a "double weekender" than as frequently I book 10 nights from a Friday to the Monday of two weeks following.

    Possibly some form of a two level system might work. If on sites where there is a problem, a set number of pitches were allocated to longer bookings.Only if not booked say a week ahead could weekenders take them in addition to their allocation. 

    It is impossible to satisfy both camps here but my idea might be tried to see if it helps.

    I support the current system, as first come first served has to be fairest for all, surely. Any type of priority for one member type over another just cannot be fair.

    But I will add that in the last few days I have attempted to book two different weekends (one this coming BH)  at a popular site; both weekends were initially full, but by monitoring each weekend daily, someone somewhere has indeed cancelled. So I’m now into both, exactly as I wanted.

    Just proves that the current system works if you work it, and persevere. Obviously, not everyone can be lucky every time, but it’s probably not worth throwing one’s hands up in despair and frustration if at first you don’t succeed.......

    yes that has happened to me too.

    I think from the club's perspective it'a a win win situation, that is the pitches will be taken by those like yourself and me who can go at short notice. So as it results in fullish sites why would the club want to change anything?

    I did look at the late availability last week for this coming weekend and found quite a bit provided you accepted what was left so it was not a total loss. She who must be obeyed however decided on a site from the other club though where we got a hardstanding with electrics despite all grass pitches being taken.

    I was surprised to see such availability on a BH weekend in Devon/Cornwall. St Agnes doesn't seem very popular judging by the availability there. Must be that aversion to using one's own loo. undecided

    How about making those members who book pitches for the whole year in one go and then cancel many of them, make them pay a deposit for each booking.   That might put them off.

    I don't think the Club should have seasonal pitches as they nearly always have the best pitches on a site, but it is a club therefore we have to accept that the rules allow for these things. The idea of being able to book a few days in advance for a weekend have sadly gone. That is progress for you!

    I have discovered club sites with no toilet facilities and here you can book a day before you want to go as members appear to want full facility sites more.

    IBH, of course you can book a few days in advance for a weekend.  There are 58 Club sites with vacancies on both Friday AND Saturday this week.
