The 8€ toll to cross the bridge to the Île de Ré was money well spent! It’s our first visit to the island and we’re smitten. The weather has helped although today it’s about to break as elsewhere in France. When first arrived at La Flotte, it was a bit overcast as you can see.
Our campsite is the former municipal now Flower Camping ‘Bel-Air and it’s just a 20 minute (for us) down to the port, the shops and cafes and restaurants. If you have a bike then this is the place for you as there are cycle paths everywhere. Some cyclists won’t get off their bikes even in the pedestrian areas!
La Flotte is a small town centred on the harbour.
There is a beach, but it disappears at high tide.
Mussels and Oysters are the main items on the menu here.
St Martin en Ré is only 4,5km from La Flotte so we took the number 3 bus (1€) and the navette (free) on Saturday to have a look. By the way, you can travel anywhere on the island for 1€)
As ever, a visit to the seaside would not be complete without an ice-cream!
We’ve changed our plan and tomorrow we’re moving to another campsite at Ars en Ré.

Thanks, once more, so nice to read your travel stories. The coastal light really shows up on the photos. The Ile de Re has been popular with some of my family (and their bikes) but we've not been there....yet.
I have to say it's very warm here in the SW so everywhere looks good this side of the channel too just now.
