Val de Vaqueros, Tarifa,Winter Stay
- looking to go to Spain from mid November until mid to late January, travelling with two dogs and caravan of 7.3meters. Has anyone stayed at the above site, is it an area we could excersize our dogs easily, any severe restrictions regarding dogs on site, e.t.c. Would be grateful for any useful info, dog related or not. Also looking to travel onward to Portugal afterwards for maybe another month or six weeks, possibly Albufeira area. Good idea or not?. Feeling hopeful, just would like some drier weather over winter (less wet than Cornwall in winter!).

Are you a surfer dude? If you are, an ideal spot. In 2009 we stayed for a few days at La Paloma, about a mile away. A lovely bay, backed by sand dunes, but windy? Never been on such a windy corner of Europe, hence the windsurfing, kitesurfing and wind turbines. Sand everywhere. In fact the whole of the Costa de la Luz tends to be windy in winter, but not really a problem. It is far less crowded than the main Costas, miles of empty beaches, loads of space for your dogs to run wild.
We had an excellent six weeks over Christmas a few years back at Camping Pinar San Jose at Zahore, a bit further west and would certainly recommend there. They allow dogs, and the Christmas/New year celebrations in the site restaurant were really good. You should also note that 12th night (the coming of the three kings) is celebrated in Spain even more than Christmas, with amazing parades through the towns

We flew down to the Costa de la Luz area for a week just after Easter to do a bit of reconnaissance of campsites in advance of overwintering in the area, but to be honest, the wind on the Atlantic coast west of Gibraltar put us off. There are warmer and more sheltered regions in Spain. The area around Murcia springs to mind.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply, both very helpful. Sorry to take so long but we are currently in France and having problems with our mobile internet device, maybe being affected by the weather here at Annecy, it's rather mixed at present. Will definitely look at the site at Zahare.

My dentist goes down there for the wind-surfing because of the predominance of strong winds.
