Aires
This has been posted before but cannot find the post, we are looking to stay on some Aires we are Travelling from Roscoff down to La Rochelle Area but want to stop along the way at some Aires as this is our First time in our Motorhome ( previously travelled by Caravan). We are not looking to buy any books . I do remember Val Da Posting regarding Aires .we go away 2nd week in June so not long now .

We're heading down that way ourselves next week. At this time of year lots of municipal campsites are open with plenty of pitches available. The prices are as good as ACSI if not better: here on the Gulf of Morbihan, we're paying 17€ a night for full sanfacs, electricity, a sea view, and this free wifi. Why not just stay on campsites?
p.s We paid 13€ at the municipal at Mayenne

We have been using this French web site now for about 12 years and without doubt it is head and shoulders above the rest you don't even need any of the aire books I stopped using them about eight years ago, your French doesn't have to be good at all and is quite easy to understand like chercher IS SEARCH. The thing we find really useful is the downloadable POI which takes you direct to the aire required, I have a Tom Tom and download it every year and it is free so whats not to like. We now live in Spain and still use this site for Spanish aires. Enjoy and in La Rochelle there is an aire that is right in the centre of the Marina and just a boat ride across the bay into town.

Download the Campercontact app. It lists thousands of motorhome stopovers and campsites across Europe. We don’t normally plan our overnight stops on the way to Italy but simply look on the app for a stopover about 30 minutes before we want one. It’s so simple and stress free.

agree with the above....www.campingcar-infos.com is the definitive source for European Aires, listing many, many more than aal the Aires and camper contact...
the site is in French but, once you get the hang of how the search works, it's fine, although sometimes a bit slow and clunky...
there is now an Android app for it....I'm waiting (very patiently...) for the Apple version for my iPad.
speaking of iPads....someone sent me an overlay to googlemaps of the Aires POI from campingcar-infos this was brilliant as it combined the excellent route planning of GM plus the locations of all the Aires....
however, I seem to have lost it or forgotten how to make it show on my GM app. oh well...
like Phil, my old Tomtom was great for losing the POI files annually but my new TOMTOM is a blooming nightmare to load.....no access to the files ystem in Windows.....and the icons can't be migrated and are Tomtom provided coloured blobs which mean nothing.....dreadful backwards step....

FYI....a reminder to check 'reviews' on a site like campingcar-infos...
we were looking for an aire on the way home and Bourges was roughly on our route so had a look in All The Aires and the area looked great, close to a college, tree lined, plenty of room, free for 48 hrs etc.....
cruised into Boirges, followed Tomtom, found aire straight away.....Building Site!
a young lady opposite explained that the college were 'improving the area' and the aire was 'no here no more'......
fortunately, Bourges has two Aires and we have overnighted on the other one, a large car park with service area, so no real problem...
however, on checking CCinfos (I would have posted an update) I saw that someone last week had reported the construction work and had to also move to this aire...
no real problem, but we wouldn't have wanted to drive on much further yesterday, which might have been the case if there wasn't a second aire.
there is a municipal site locally which would have served as back up..
moral, check.....

BB – as you know, but others may not, having at least another option for the overnight stay on Aires is advisable.
Over the years we've had to find alternatives – twice Circus Tops has been on the Aires, upgrading work has been in progress on others, Aires have been completely closed from one year to the next and some just aren't quite what they seem in the pictures in the books or online.
We just move on to the alternatives and hope they are suitable.
We use CamperContact most of the time and are happy enough with that but an App for Campingcar-infos on our Ipads would be a bonus – we don't have a designated Satnav.
