Calais to Interlaken - route advice

This years summer trip in our twin-axle is Brienz, Switzerland and then onto St. Tropez, France.  We're taking a total of 3 weeks and using the tunnel for the first time.  I have factored in 2 nights stop-off on way to Brienz, 1 night stop-off from Brienz to St.Tropez and then 2 nights stopping-off en-route home!  We are not budget restricted in terms of toll-roads or fees - just need the safest and most time efficient routes.

Calais to Brienz:- A26 via Riems.  We were looking to stop around Arras for the night as we will be on tunnel around tea-time on a Sunday in late June.  Take A4 to Strasbourg, then A35.  We would spend another over-night stop around Colmar area before continuing onto Basel and then down to Interlaken.  I think I spot something on my map that could be a tunnel on this route and google maps is showing roadworks on some of my chosen roads!

Has anyone got some advice on my route for this leg of my journey or even for the other parts of my trip - Brienz to St.Tropez and then back home?  Just in case it matters, my van mtplm is 1950 and my tow car is a Lexus hybrid!

    That sounds a reasonable route down to Brienz, and the usual site guides will give you various options for the two overnight sites on the way.

    For the second leg from Brienz to St Tropez I would go via Geneva and Grenoble rather than trying the Great St Bernard tunnel which is a slow road.

    There are two small tunnels at the top of the hill on the motorway after Basel and the M1 junction to Bern. I take it you will be taking the motorway from Basel to Bern and then on to Interlaken. Watch out for caravan speed checks, set up by the police to catch caravan and motorhomes on the down hill stretches. It's 50mph on Swiss motorways for caravans!! Cost me €90, but they do take visa on the spot.

    For your trip down, there is the ACSI site, Paille Haute, near Arras that we often use on the way back but a better option if you don’t mind a higher price and a three hour drive from Calais is the site at Guignicourt as it is very convenient, 5 mins from the Autoroute. Many choices in Alsace but we always stay at the municipal ACSI site in Obernai (Le Vallon d’Ehn). Nice walks and close to the town centre plus bus to Strasbourg. Best route is to turn off of the Autoroute after Metz at Saverne then  Marmoutier and cut off the corner, avoiding Strasbourg. Don’t approach through Obernai.
