How can this thread be more interesting?
Way back when CT first started, "General chat" was one of the most interesting and stimulating threads on the Forum. Today it is far from that,- so what can we do to make it more interesting than "What are you all up to?" I realise that the thread is fairly well used, but surely there are many more stimulating subjects than that? - And before the usual residents of Trollhatten pitch in, No I am not suggesting that we return to the bad old days of abuse and personal insults, - I totally reject that concept too. But for heavens sake surely we can make it more interesting than this. Just look at the rate of posting, very often several days pass between anyone making a post!

Plenty of interesting thread on GC from recycling to naked gardening day and everything between. I think folk will start new posts if and when they feel like it. I'm more than happy to read what peeps have to say and respond to the chit chat on here.

Well, TF, you can start a thread on a topic that interests you and, if it interests others, they’ll join in and you’ll have a winner. 👍🏻

What do you have in mind TF, what would you like to see discussed?
Don't wait for someone else to start an interesting discussion, jump in and see what the response is. We are all different in what makes a riveting discussion, so you might hit the jackpot and get over a thousand pages.
Bear in mind that the members who joined in to lively discussions have moved on, not rejoined or sadly passed away. Many names have disappeared since I joined Club Together.

Cariadon,
To be perfectly honest I really don't have anything in particular I wanted to raise, and anyway why feed the Trolls?
I have been away for a while and just looked back in to see how the Forum was, sadly I have found it less friendly than before, and not an arena where you can say what you think, without it being dissected and dismissed out of hand, by those who disagree.
How is Carmarthenshire fairing these days? I was originally from Pembroke, so we mainly pass through Carmarthen on our Holidays. I expect its still a bit soggy there, I know that Pembrokeshire is. The West Coast seems to be getting more than its fair share of the wet stuff this year. But so has Cornwall, another favourite spot, so we are unsure where to go for what will probably be our last year Caravanning.

I’m puzzled, TF. What do you want us to do? 🤔

You must be more sensitive than me TF, recently I've felt that the GC threads have, by and large, been a pretty friendly.
There are some threads on CT that from time to time become a little tense probably because we all have differing and in some cases strong views.
Personally I'm happy to rub along in this fashion, if I'm looking for excitement I can usually find it in other ways

Carmarthenshire / Pembrokeshire have had very mixed weather, one day rain, then hot sunshine, then cold and grey. but still as beautiful as ever. I do remember that you mentioned a few years back that you were born / raised at Robertson W. We tend to visit or stay in Ceredigion and Mid Wales as OH was stationed in Pembrokeshire
I agree that trolls tend to hijack a thread that is getting too popular or if it's started by somebody that's not part of their circle.

Instead of discussing 'interesting' topics it appears this thread is moving towards the subject of those who behave badly on the forum. Why was it necessary to bring trolls and hijacking into the equation when the thread is supposed to be about something else entirely?
The OP has referred to trolls twice. If there is a problem in that direction the mods and the CM will deal with it as they have demonstrated in the past. It seems that so often people think those who disagree are trolls even when their different views are expressed perfectly politely. Trolling is something entirely different, such as posting in an antagonistic manner purely to incite anger and argument. Similarly, hijacking is often used to describe a turn a discussion has taken away from the original subject but that is part and parcel of everyday conversation. Hijacking is the deliberate move of taking a thread off course for whatever reason rather than the natural turns of conversation.
To return to the topic, the OP wants to see more stimulating discussion but, to be honest, I don’t see that is likely given the constraints placed upon us by the T&Cs which were put in place to purposely curb the spiky discussions of old. I’m afraid the T&Cs mean discussion is going to be far more bland as a consequence.
If I could think of a lively topic to inspire a debate, I’d post it but on a night when Eurovision is to dominate our screens...... well, over to you.

Trolls? Circles? Hijacks? Shame that the few have in the past spoilt things and had such an 'influence' on the direction of CT. Best to ignore the antisocial I'd reckon. However, things may not be as interesting, stimulating or thought provoking without those different perspectives and viewpoints! Afterall, how can you consider or question your own opinions when you don't see the whole picture including the small bits. Some issues are understandably inappropriate for forums such as this but with those subjects that are its all about making ones point without being deliberately antagonistic or argumentative just for that self satisfying 'desired' effect.

Not with me Cariadon. I’m trying to keep TF's thread on track while you seem to want to railroad it. Shall we do TF the courtesy of sticking to the topic?

Oh, for goodness sake! Here we go again.

It would never be possible to go back to those early days TF.
In those days any subject that was not caravan/motorhome related would be lumped together under General Chat, with no separation of topics.
We still had Trolls and little clicks of posters which made it difficult for new members to join in. Lets hope those days are long gone.
Maybe we should have a coloured star system for posting and clicking the Like.

Yes indeed, our country's entry has been disrupted on stage! We could discuss that?
or best ever British eurovison? I'll say Buck's Fiss?
Post edit, apparently A quick reminder - those living in the UK can't vote for SuRie so perhaps AD could vote?

How to make this thread interesting?.---- Discuss Brexit ----- That won't happen of course , as discussions about "news and current" affairs have been banned due to a few people being unable to accept that others might have a different opinion to themselves.

Sorry, but I disagree. I look on "General Chat" as exactly that - the sort of chat you might have with your neighbours on site about where they live and their families, where you've stayed, places you've visited, pubs you've eaten in etc etc and by and large that's what it is. May not be of interest to everyone all the time but, that's life!
I don't want to have a deep discussion about politics, religion, the meaning of life etc with my neighbours on site - there are other places for that.
TF - as you and I both know from the history of CT and even from another forum we both contribute to, the political discussions inevitably end up with two entrenched and opposing views being regurgitated over and over again. Let's keep CT clear of that.

Agree exactly with M, it's a place to discuss things with like-minded (ie caravan club members) people, on the sort of conversations you might have in your neighbours awning if invited in, or around the dish washing/tap area.
And I strongly suspect that if this were to happen you certainly wouldn't get into a discussion on politics, religion, or anything that could lead to any friction (unless you get onto the pads in your Alko hitch). Common sense really.
This is a caravaning/MH website with some light general chat thrown in. If people want to discuss other 'heavier' stuff there are plenty of other forums available, why do people want to turn a caravan/MH based site into something else?

Every now and again TF raises this type of discussion. I'm afraid if you want to start a discussion it's better to come up with something new rather than a repeating the same comments or demands and hoping someone else will do the honours.
It's just the luck of the draw whether a discussion takes off or not, you have to be prepared for failures too. I look forward to new ideas or thoughts on here.

TF, as brue says you have asked this question before. If you don't like the answers given then its quite simple, don't read the threads that you find boring.
There are parts of CT that I don't bother with as they don't interest me. However I do like the friendly chit chat of 'what are you doing today' its always a good measure of what the weather is really doing rather than the sometimes fictitious weather report
I don't like arguments, its one of the things that I certainty don't miss now that I no longer go to work. Life is too short to be constantly picking fights.

The thread is as about making this section more interesting. My tongue in cheek answer was Discuss Brexit. Some people obviously ignored the smiley
Ive always been happy about news and current affairs being banned as there was a few people who couldn't discuss those subjects without flinging their toys out the pram and spoiled any rational discussion.
