Overnight Recommendations enroute to La Guyonnaire

Hi, We're venturing over to France for the first time and sailing between Poole and Cherbourg.  We arrive in Cherbourg at 13:45 and I was originally thinking we'd drive straight through to La Guyonnaire, Nr Saint-Julien-des-Landes, Vendee.  Its approx 280 miles which I suspect will take approx 6hrs with stops.  Although we can check in as late as 10pm Im starting to think we may be better breaking the journey up with an overnight stop.  Can anyone who's done this route suggest anywhere suitable thats safe or do you think we'd be ok time wise doing it in one long run?

    Sites along that route we have used in the past include those at Fougeres, Rennes, Guemene Penfao, and Nort sur Erdre - but honestly there are other sites in almost every village along the way. If you look up CampingFrance.com it will show all of  them to you on a map. I hope that helps.

    Just round the corner at the bottom of the Cherbourg peninsula is an excellent site at Pontorson, Camping Haliotis. But as eurotraveller says there are municipal sites everywhere in France and you are never far from one. see www.camping-municipal.org.

    we regularly use the Poole ferry and, when doing our winter run down the west of France, our first stop is often at Les Sorrinieres just on the southern side of Nantes...we are usually there by 6 ish, including a cuppa stop halfway.

    your destination is about an hour further on from there, so could easily be done in one trip...although we have a MH which might make the driving a little faster and the cuppa stop a little easier...

    the roads are very good and, on your route, no point in using any tolls.

    next month we are taking the car (for a change) to the ile de Ré, from the same ferry, with passengers, and are looking to do the trip in a day.
