Non-EHU Sites List
I run a “basic CL” or “Off Grid CL” and have been asked by a couple of members to start a new discussion about the Non-EHU Sites List and Google Map we have created so that others so inclined may find it of use.
SO IF YOU USE OFF GRID CLS YOU MAY LIKE THE FOLLOWING and you can see how many Non - EHU (Off Grid) CAMC CLs are out there!
I have produced a sheadsheet database of the CAMC non EHU (Off Grid CLs)
It is available for anyone of view with the link. Click here to open the Non EHU CL sheet
The default view of the sheet should be CLs sorted by County. There are currently 434 listed on this sheet along with the postcodes. You can scroll up and down the list on the right vertical scroll bar and left & right on the bottom scroll bar. There are links to the CLs page listing on the CAMC website in column 5 which should open a separate page and take you there, to the right of that there will be a blue dot if they have images to view. To the right of this is a range of facilities available a dot against CLs row means available. If you view the Non EHU CL Google sheet by clicking a sharing link or from the link above on this page on a computer you will be able to sort data by filtering what you do or don’t want (there are some “filter views” already set up! “A-Z County”, “A-Z CL Name” , Postcode, etc)
Look for Filter Views along the icon menu bar above the sheet for to the right will be a down arrow if you click that it will show the filterviews already set up go down and click the one you wish to view. You can also you hover over the top on the right of the column header (the cell where the letters are) a down type arrow will appear or if you see you will be able to sort sheet, click it and click sort A-Z (this work on the the dots as will group them all together!)
We have now produced a Google Map to show the location and info of each of the non EHU/Off Grid CLs visited in the April 2018 updated database Click here to view. You can zoom in on the area you are interested in and click the icons, this will bring up the data on the CL.
If you find an issue or would like us to edit/add an entry please leave a comment on the sheet page or email me. We will update the Google sheet monthly after going through the Club Magazine CLs update page.
If the links dont work both are available via your website https://newtongrove.co.uk/find-a-non-ehu-cl/

Hi gibbo456
I guess that it just about covers the costs at present (insurance, petrol, etc, etc) we charge from £7 anight dependant of days you stay! As an off grid CL I did not really expect it to be profitable when set up 4 years ago, I did it more so that people could enjoy the site as I do. The bookings have been increasing year on year though and its great to meet members from all over.
Also can see great rainbows!

Thanks to the other members who have supported getting this discussion made a sticky. It will be great if even some Off Grid CLs get even a few bookings from this.
For “non EHU virgins“ we have a Solar Battery Charging Unit also with 5a 240v outlets for things like charging tooth brushes, phones, computers etc. so you can see what solar panels can do for you.
So gain your freedom and give us OFF GRID sites a try!

Thank you so very much for this, it’s brilliant. It must have taken you ages to put together. I did email the club once upon a time asking if it was possible to have this filter in the search. Of course it’s possible, but I never had a reply. Best wishes.

Thanks Vanbirds68 for your kind words.
I will try to keep it upto date each month with new ones & ones that close. I am surprised that the club search does not allow the filtering as it allows non-EHU CLs to join the network!
The only website I know of that allows a search by Non-EHU is here but how upto date it is I cant say0 -
Just updated the list and map with a NEW NON-EHU CL
Rosedale, Lymn Bank East, Thorpe St Peter, Skegness, Lincolnshire, PE24 4PJ

I was going to make it sticky for you but somebody's beat me to it.

I think and hope that more and more people will start to see a way through new technologies to enjoy much cheaper holidays without ‘going back to basics’ as the CMHC likes to call it. I have now been off grid for four years and have saved a serious amount of cash on pitches with EHU. I have had brilliant holidays with everything I needed. I accept totally that the EHU has its place, particularly in winter but most of the year the SP keeps everything up and running. If only the CMHC would accede to my request to do a full article on ‘Modern’ offgrid caravanning. I have made two requests and been promised a result- the first over 3 years ago and I’m still waiting. Perhaps they really don’t want to go down the rabbit hole as they would be frightened by what they found? So it’s up to this forum to put the message out. I have been contacted by caravanners around the country who have heard the message and to a man, they have been thrilled with what they have done to get away from the umbilical cord. I look forward to next week- my first foray with my new lithium battery. 1/4 weight of 2 lead acids and many more advantages. It’s a very exciting time with technology, and we all have the chance to use it and to reduce fossil fuel use. I believe the non EHU sites have a much better future now than they ever have had. Thanks Johnny for your work in this field- no pun intended 🤣🤣🤣

I wonder why you think the club would promote going off grid when they are selling pitch nights on sites that are almost fully EHU, Merve? That’s akin to turkeys voting for Christmas.

Because we are members too Tinny. I am not asking them to PROMOTE it , just have the courage to talk about it- to be an unbiased club!! They may not like it but that’s the result of catering for everyone- an inclusive membership but I take your point very well. Thanks for pointing it out mate!!

You’re welcome, Merve.
PS. Hey, Merve, you liked your own post

Hi there Johnny57 and others,
I have to mirror everyone else's comments and say, what a brilliant, quick reference, spreadsheet that is! Well done!
With regard to Merve's comments requesting a non-electric Certificated Locations feature in the magazine, I have forwarded this on.
I hope you all had a lovely Mayday weekend. For most of us, the weather was record-breaking, brilliant!

Hi Gibbo456
We had 4 in for the early May Bank Holiday but were fully booked at Easter, surprised given all the rain and grass was so water logged. This year is better than last year have exceeded the total we had booked for the whole of last year this week!
Why do you not put a link to your site when you post? others that read this discussion may like to have a look and maybe make a booking.
I like your aerial image.2 -
Thank you for this. From around March to October we prefer off grid so this will save us a lot of time searching. I hope it is not too time consuming to keep up to date as it is a fantastic resource. We looked at visiting your site as a small 'thank you' but it is too far away for us for even a long weekend from up in Durham

Again Johnny, thanks! The continuing loss of non EHU sites is quite worrying isn’t it.? I suppose the reasons are many and varied but one must be the pressure on land and extracting the best use and profit from it. However, I applaud your earlier comment regarding not making a profit but breaking even. This surely is the spirit of the non EHU CL. A quiet, and peaceful site which is offered for others to enjoy without trying to earn a holiday in the Seychelles from it!! Very often we forget that these sites are there because someone has very kindly offered their land to be enjoyed and at a very reasonable price. I thank you and all CL owners, yes, EHU sites included, for your continued & unstinting help to ‘house’us lot!! Let’s hope that the new technologies start to change the CL owners minds about closing them- we should all make an effort to keep these sites open by taking a few days to visit or even a long w/e which any decent battery should be able to cope with.

Many thanks Nicky - let’s hioe you can get through to them that this is the elephant in the room!! I meet so many caravanners who haven’t got a clue that one can survive offgrid for weeks at a time in a very comfortable way. Perhaps these people don’t bother with reading anything about improvements in technology or perhaps they are just not interested which I find amazing but everyone to their own . Having said that though, If the article is never written, then I feel that the club is short changing its members. All I ask is to set the facts before the great unwashed, and let them decide- I wouldn’t imagine that the doors at Roadpro and similar would be taken off their hinges by people wanting new techs fitted so I really don’t think that the CMHC has much to worry about. The EHU will still rule!!

Hi Merve thanks for your input on this discussion. I agree the continuing loss on non–EHU sites at this rate is worrying espiecially with no new ones opening! If this decline were to continue each month in 5 years no non EHU CLs! Maybe it’s what the Club wants as it seams never to promote them as an alternative.
As an example can not search for them on the Club website, in this month magazine they featured stone circles we are 15 minutes/ 8.6 miles away from the Rollright Stones ancient site- stone ring not a mention, seem only to mention one club site and one CL! In the Events Diary page Bloxham Steam Rally 2.5 miles away only mention is the temporary site (not everyone wants to stop at the event!) no club sites or CLs listed. Sorry rant over. Have learnt you have not to rely on the Club get yourself a website etc etc ……Thanks for your support & all the others who use Off Grid Cls
Not booked my Seychelles break yet though would save up for maybe a moon trip!1 -
" I agree the continuing loss on non–EHU sites at this rate is worrying especially with no new ones opening!"
Not the case Johnny, there was 1 last month, Rosedale at Skegness, and 1 the month before, Bridge Fm, Wickenby, Lincoln.
Can't be bothered to go back further but you get my gist, I guess.
