Bien Assise
Does anyone have any experience of arriving latish at Bien Assise, probably at about 9.00pm? I'm sure that they will be geared up for this, but their reply to my email is rather vague.

It is quite a few years since we stayed at Bien Assise but in the past if you arrived late you were asked to go to the bar (whilst it was still open) where you could pay and told where to find a pitch. Don't know if it's the same situation now.

Is there a particular reason why you want to go to Bien Assise?
If its for just one or two nights there are better, and more reasonable sites a similar distance from Calais. At Camping Bal you can arrive at any time and its so much friendlier (and less than half the price) of BA.

I think reception closes at about 7pm. Very expensive but ACSI if you are out of high season.

We had a quick look, today, at the new Camping Municipal Le Gravelot, on Rue d'Asfeld, in Calais, towards Bleriot Plage, and I must admit it seems to be a really good place for an overnight. Motorhomes are charged 10 euros for a 24 hour period, and it's 19 euros for a caravan pitch. Most are hard-standing, some grass for tents, and fenced between pitches. The facilities appear to be brand-new and good quality, (two sanitary blocks), with a baby/child bathroom, a children's playground, and it's so near the ferry port and Eurotunnel (via the Calais Centre Ville exit - not the autoroute, or from the Eurotunnel terminal). There is a boulangerie within walking distance, a couple of restaurants nearby and many more in Calais itself, and the beach is about 400 metres away.
It could prove a really good alternative for people wanting a site near the port for just an overnight stop.

Hi Val, were you able to find out what time that new site in Calais can accept late night arrivals please? Or does it have automated bank card access like the Motorhome Aire alongside and like many of the chain hotels? If it can let late Caravan arrivals in then it will be a winner.

I didn't ask - but all 'incomers' appear to go through the same barrier. There is a 'guardian' until 7.00 pm in low season and 9.00 pm in high season, so I would hope that a phone call would give you a code for entrance............... perhaps!! We were checking out the site for friends in a motorhome who will be there in early June, so I'm afraid I forgot to really think about caravanners..................!

Hi ET
You are not allowed to drive on site between 22.00 and 07.00 so I guess even if you can get in after 21.00, you would (literally) have little time or room for manoeuvre
