Sites within easy distance of Calais
We will be returning in our MotorHome to the UK via Calais in late September and would welcome advice on campsites which are far enough away from Calais to avoid any trouble, but close enough to reach in a one to two hour drive. A nice site would be preferred to end the holiday on a bright note
Thanks

There are reviews and photos of three sites we have stayed on within half an hour of Calais on my blog

We are going to stay at Chateau du Gandspette on our way out from Calais next weekend which gets good reviews.

If you would prefer a campsite this one might be worth considering http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/camping_les_erables.html It has the advantage of having gravel runways in the grass for motohomes so if its wet you are confident you have firm standing. It is quite close to Calais with easy access to the motorway.

I have used Les Erables a few times but it does close for the winter. Another vote for the Aire at Gravlines if you are coming from the north or the Wissant Aire if coming from the south. It is quite popular and I have used it twice in the last year and is a short walk from a restaurant in the village. The Gravelines Aire cost 6 euros the last time I used it and the disposal point is not located at the same place but there are directions on how to get to it. The Wissant Aire is free and has disposal facilities co- located.

Assuming you are an ACSI member hen Bien Assise at Guine is a good site and only 20 minutes from the ferries or tunnel. Far too expensive without ACSI but good if the weather is poor. Check closing dates.
St. Louis is nice but can be soft underfoot for a Motorhome in wet weather.
You don’t say which direction you will be coming from - Lille, Reims or Rouen.

My vote goes to Camping St Louis at Autingues near Ardres. Its about 30-40 minutes from Calais. The cost in September is 19.90euro per night.

Another vote for that, we've stayed there a few times and always enjoyed it there. As WTG said, it's a spacious Aire, and within walking distance of a lovely town and harbour. Definitely a favourite of ours.

We stayed at city Europe the night before crossing via the tunnel in February, I was a bit sceptical when the idea was first muted but when we arrived at about 3pm there were about 5 Motorhomes already parked up, went shopping and then had a meal then when we got back to the van there must have been 25 or more Motorhomes parked up.
Quiet night with regular visits from the local police.
