Camping Il Serchio is I think the only site in Lucca - a lovely city, but that campsite gets reviews which are often awful.. So like a lot of other people we stayed in Pisa at Camping Torre Pendente instead - a biig, busy, efficient site within walking distance of the leaning tower and the Duomo and only a 14 mile drive up to Lucca.

I will reluctantly tell you about a wonderful site a little bit further south than Lucca but worth travelling down the A1 the extra miles. The site is in Bolsena and is called "Camping BLU". We have been holidaying there for 20 Years; so why is it so good:
- Family owned and run site, who ensure that they maintain very high standards and behaviours of their guests
- On the edge of lake Bolsena: a warm lake not like the cold Northern Italian lakes
- Green grass site with wonderful flowers
- Modern and very clean facilities
- Fantastic restaurant -
- The lake is great for swimming or boating, and is some of the cleanest water in Europe
- Walk along the edge of the lake into the town- it has amazing history and is of religious significance
- Very few people venture from the UK, but attracts people who return year on year.
- We take time out and travel up to Florence/Lucca for a few nights in a hotel - not a long journey in the car
