Hi can anyone give us some advise on taking our dog to France, apart from a passport and correct injections, what do we need to do to bring her back, I have heard we need to see a vet before we can return, we are coming back via Calais, any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi Bertie. You get the passport for your dog from your vet and take it with you to France, the dog does not need to learn French. On return to UK, within the timescales in the li9nk provided by Mollysmummy above, you then need to see a vet who will check the dog over and give them a worming tablet, you can take a worming tablet with you if you wish and they will use that. He then stamps and signs the passport. When ypou get to Calais just follow the signs where they will check the documentation. Sounds complicated but it isn't, we have two dogs and have done this the last two years in France and Holland. The vets charge about 20 euros per dog, sometimes more.

Its quite easy to do. We use Eurotunnel and the vet passport building is clearly marked as you enter the tunnel site. All the agents speak perfect English. Here's a thread with names and address's of recommended Vets.

    https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-together/discussions/sites-touring/overseas-sites-touring/list-of-vets-in-france/?p=1

Providing everything is in order and in date on the pet passport you will find the whole process very easy and stress free.

This is the link to the map with each Vet on it

One last think the worming tablet should be administered between 24 and 120 hours before your scheduled entry back to the UK. So unless you are staying in Calais don't use a Calais Vet because you wont have enough time between the tablet being given & your return crossing.

It's as easy as everyone says. When you visit the vet in France, check that the details entered in the pet passport are accurate. We've had two mistakes: one we noticed and one we didn't. The one we didn't spot (wrong date) necessitated us finding another vet in Calais to have the passport countersigned.

Please let me know which Vet you use, and any updated information you can provide, and I'll add them to the Google map to help assist other dog owners.

    Thanks.
