As I said earlier my daughter and bf will be using a camping pod late summer there while we're there in the caravan, so I'll report back personally.
We get to be together as a family and it's quite cheap for them.

All the time it is a "members club" the only way it can be "obtained?" is as happened to the AA and RAC by offering a "bribe" in the way of small payment, in comparison with the clubs worth to all the members,large leisure companies have been circling both clubs for years looking for a way in,

How could the club be "in the hands of a magazine company"? There are no shares, it’s not a plc. There’s no way any party could hold a financial stake in the club.

Using Diesel to supply services is one ‘essential’ thing, driving around for pleasure isn’t ‘essential’ DD, so yes I reckon if folk have money to throw around our Govt will ensure it’s thrown their way via a new tax bracket as TW says.

DD, I am fully aware that the club is a private limited company.
I was referring to some organisation/body purchasing a stake in a public limited company by way of shares. That is not possible with a limited company which is not quoted on the stock exchange.

Re Coniston I am given to understand that in addition to the 2 existing pods and the 10 S pods which are been delivered there will be 2 wait for it------------- Airstream Trailers. Hope the powers that be have negotiated a good deal from Swift who make the S pod and are now also the appointed import agent for Airstream.There are 4 used S pods that have been on site and have been bought by another operation.A block of 16 caravan and motorhome pitches have been sacrificed for this development.The Development cost has to be in the hundreds of thousands.S pod at 20k each and Airstreams a lot more.Appears the more mundane caravan is not good enough.Only The Best for these "Static Dwellers".Hope the profit will go towards reduced pitch fees for the rest of us.

its when they become static that folk start to get a bit jumpy....
Re, pods and the like....sites all over the place have been mixing touring spaces with larger fixed accommodation.....static van, pods, chalets etc...nothing new for most businesses, perhaps it's that CC is a bit later to the party that's the difference.....oh, and that they have always been a touring organisation to most members...
but times change, and CC is dipping it's toe (tow?) in and wants to see how cold (or warm) the water is....
to get into this market, even in a smaller way than some, will require a decent infrastructure investment....that's what we are seeing.

Sadly BB they may find the water is warm........
I can remember when the likes of Fallbarrow Park & Whitecross Bay on Windermere took touring units.......
Now those great sites are given over to (presumably more profitable) wooden huts & statics......
As members of a touring club, we should be concerned at the loss of touring pitches....

Friends of ours have used the luxury pods at Coniston, came back huge fans. Another stay booked in September. Personally I think they look great. Would definitely consider a stay.

I haven’t read all 117 posts to date. But is here is my view.
The Caravan and Motorhome Club, exists to promote and supports its members to pursue their hobby of touring caravanning. (I make no distinction between towed and motor caravans)
If or when there is no longer a demand for touring caravaning then the Club should wind itself up as it no longer has a purpose. It is not not purpose to go on for in perpetuity for the sake of just going on.
If you want to stay in a glamping pod or a static caravan there are plenty of commercial sites that provide this service.

It’s a great Thread for giving casual observers an indication of the difference in posters atwixt the forward open minded thinkers & the backward looking closed minded ones. They also run along the inclusive & exclusive minded too. Enjoyable illuminating thread👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊
