Insidious Development

It was absolutely no trouble Corners. It was an enlightening experience.---- There is a huge world of opportunity and interest outside of the narrow confines of the CMC, which I feel that those who think the CMC is the only show in town, are definitely missing out on. I am happy to enlighten you with the findings of my experiment.
Even you might like to broaden your horizons sometime and take your Caravan to stunning places by using other than CMC campsites. I do hope you can find the courage to do so soon.
Happy to help

Are we told off?
Reslly, Stano, your question of why and who is one for the club rather than the forum

The club surely has a duty to maximise utilisation of it's sites.
Policy of the club is carried out by an executive who I understand are responsible to a council of elected members. Therefore whatever decisions are made are made subject to scrutiny by representatives of the membership.
I have no problems with club sites, club policy and club rules because I am free to choose where I stay and free to choose whether or not I continue to be a member.

"Courage"?
K - signing up for the armed forces knowing that at any time you may be sent abroad to risk life and limb takes courage.
Joining the emergency services knowing you will probably at some point come face to face with the worst that one human can inflict on another, deliberately or accidentally takes courage.
Using a non-CAMC site? Really?

Call me old fashioned, but I still see the Club roll is primarily to enrich the lives of its members by providing the sort of facilities it's members want. The problem is that the Club has a diverse membership and some members welcome additional facilities and ways to get away. Some members have even commented that they find alternative form of staying on site useful if there are family members who wish to get way but don't have their own units. It is also useful for younger folk who don't have their own units.
Personally, I see there is nothing wrong with experimenting with alternative accommodation. If this is what members want they will use them - if not, they won't. The Club ploughs profits back into investment so if it is sucessful we all stand to benefit. If it's not beneficial to the members, no doubt it won't continue. Who know the direction of 'touring' in the future. With the interest in smaller and electric cars do we really know what the future holds for towing some of our larger units. Why not experiment and find out if members want to use this sort of facility and see it's another way the lives of our members can be enriched.

It could even bring me back to using Club sites rather than CLs when our friends and family who are none caravaners want to come away with us. Not everyone can afford/ has the storage/time etc to follow our hobby but occasionally wants to holiday with us.
Now that I am a grumpy intolerant old woman I like my own accommodation and don't want to share a house etc with them although I want to share my holidays.
I really must update my photo to one that shows the real me and not ten years or so out of date

Yet another thread which just goes to show what a diverse group we are. Even with our similarities there are many different opinions, needs, desires etc being held by fellow members. Also those differences between the club's way of working and the other providers can be viewed in different ways too. In my opinion long live those differences as they provide options, alternatives and choices but long live that tolerance of others also which is so crucial to the harmonious enjoyment of our much loved commonly held pastime.

Absolutely agree Longtimecaravanner - but not about the grumpy old woman bit... 😀😀 Although we have not used the 'alternative form of accommodation, I also like the idea about having family members share the holiday without sharing the caravan! ☺☺

I have seen a few like this around and about, but I think the Club is a bit too risk averse, and some of the Club members perhaps too arthritic.

Who will take bets on how long it will be to the next change of name . . . ?

did you mean for the CCC?
Do you think they'll change and have a M in there? CCMC?

If anyone is interested in what I think - I think they will merge!

I think there is a sizeable element within the Club that don't want anything to change, they just like as it is. That is fine as far as it goes but the Club management and committees have to look beyond this cosy concept of the Club. Who would have thought that making a sensible change to the name of the Club to recognise the reality that motorhomes are becoming a pretty sizeable portion of the membership would create so much vehemence of expression. Especially as the old name seemed to discourage some of those motorhomes who had not progressed through the normal different styles of camping from joining the Club. What the OP is critical of is a minor change in comparison. I don't imagine that in ten years time you will turn up at a Club site and have to hunt between the pods or chalets for an ordinary pitch but in 20/30 years who knows but by then there will be a greater acceptance that things have changed.

This has been talked about for a long time and each club has been around a long time too. Both have different ways of doing things, and IMHO cater for different clientele. So I don't think so, well maybe merge as in they become one umbrella company but still retain the differences.
The worse thing is that both adopt the rules and procedures for both, I would think that most people like choice?

I wondered this myself at one point. Who knows what will happen in the future. In generations to come, will there be sufficient interest to justify two Clubs? Whatever happens, I strongly suspect most of us won't be around to see it happen! ☺

I think that they were branching out well before the CC decided to follow suit, David.

I'm a motor caravanner who has been a member for over 23 years. Never felt excluded and never saw the need to change the name. I see statics as caravans providing they are not lodges. I don't see tents and glamping pods as caravans. However, I understand that planning permission for sites has to be more inclusive nowadays.
The Club is trying to find a path through the changes happening in society. It is right to do so, Whether its solution is right is a different question.

As one would expect Club campsites are out of step and out of line with the rest of the world. Very slowly they will adapt and try to catch up, but it will take time. The professional managers have seen the light.
Meanwhile Featherdown Farms and Center Parcs are pulling in the younger crowd, and Motorhome pub stopovers and the first few municipal Aires (Canterbury and Exmouth) will gather pace and cater for the oldies with motorhomes.
Change happens.
