I've been watching a programme on TV called 'Escape to the Chateau' and wondered if there were any Chateau that you know of that allow overnight Motorhome stops similar to the the Aires system ?

We start meandering through France next week and quite fancy stopping in the peace and quiet of a Chateau grounds overnight.

Any help appreciated.

Scroll through the Gamping.com website and select the ones which take motorhomes - there are all sorts of private camping possibilities there and some of them are almost / but not quite in chateaux grounds and gardens. They look prettier than some Motorhome Aires !  Have a good trip. Take care.

most certainly....M. Vauban's chateau at Blaye, while not as ostentatious as those on (say) the Loire, is listed as a formal Aire (it's just to the north of the citadel, walking distance, not the Aire in the town on the riverside) and gives 48 hrs free parking and free EHU in their grounds, about 15 pitches from memory..

the chateau is now a wine producer and hosts tours and dinner parties..obviously the Aire is a loss leader but you don't have to take advantage of any attractions, but it was a pleasant place to stay.

we went to one of the dinners, great fun being the only English there, but food, setting and atmosphere great, with an amusing 'patron' even in French...

Sorry, I can't help with the query but must say that I have so enjoyed the programmes.

BB - we stayed overnight on the town Aire a few years ago and only 'discovered' the Chateau Aire the following day.

Euro - the Gamping site does throw up some very decent stopovers - further investigation required before we go to France.

Apparently Dick Strawbridge is considering having Motorhome access but it won't be this year - perhaps next year - would be great to visit his Chateau.

    Thanks for the replies.
