Why is the website so slow

Very slow again tonight, and there appears not to be many on it.

I tried to reply to the original post a year ago, but it has taken this long to load
i suspect that us “caravaners and Motorhomers” are meant to take it slow

My first time in a while using CT and I almost lost the will to live tonight.
I posted my first thread in between waiting for my MnS Garlic chicken kievs to heat up in my old and battered quest mini oven and by the time I have finished dinner was cooked, eaten and washed away

Its so slow because the CC wouldn't go to the expense of having a proper web site designer do the job for them when it was last revamped. Instead I believe it was done in house.
The result being that its so slow & clunky and prone to breakdowns. Its hardly fit for purpose but don't count on the CC doing anything about it anytime soon.

I suspect the slowness is to do with server capacity and the number of users online at any one time. Didn't the Club outsource the running of its servers a couple of years ago? Before that happened it seemed to be reasonably quick. It does not help that we have three advertisements that have to load every time you load a new page. I would agree that it is very frustrating waiting for pages to load and this has been flagged up many times in the recent past.

outsourcing the infrastructure or the 'service' doesn't (shouldn't) remove a company's desire/requirement to provide something that its customers can actually use sensibly....
havent the club ever heard of Service Review Meetings, Service Level Agreements and the like?

If they outsource the servers are they possibly not in this country.
Latency is defined as
The term latency refers to any of several kinds of delays typically incurred in the processing of network data. A low latency network connection is one that experiences small delay times, while a high latency connection suffers from long delays.
When I link my speed test program with a server in Delhi India I get a latency of 372 ms, rather than the 20 or so with a server in Manchester. This has a dramatic affect on available bandwidth which varies significantly with each test. Unlike the fairly constant figures I get from servers in the UK.

That sounds a possibility but I would then expect the latency delay to be near constant whereas the problems here seem to be time based.
What frustrates me is that the club have allowed the problem to continue for years even when it is easily corrected.

Keep getting the dreaded error message again on the "New Way of Booking" post. Can't access the last page!!

I couldn't get onto the site last night. This morning it is has reverted to it's normal exceedingly slow loading. The question now is was it worth the effort?

Last week whilst I was away the site was slow but I put that down to fact that I was tethered and the signal wasn't great. At home I'm on cable and the club site is as fast as any of the websites I tend to visit. So just wondering if it's folks own broadband set up?

This morning it's as lively as a spring chicken.

I'm on my phone on here again, my usual method, using high speed fibre cable it is much faster at the moment. I checked in yesterday it was slower than now. Last week and other days, I couldn't say exactly when as life's too short 😉, it has been DIRE timed out messages and no response ones regularly and then it would 'pick' up but always slower than others. This morning it's a dream 😃. That said I logged in and then after trying go like a post I was taken to the log in page again, attempting to log in again I got the wrong way road signs, returned to the thread to find I was logged in. Never logged out or logged back in despite the message!

Totally agree. I use 200m link and can hit 20 pages simultaneously in the blink of an eye. This is the slowest website I use by a considerable margin, a factor of many times, it can take up to 10 seconds to link pages and is possibly the worst server on the WWW.

By the time the site has got around to opening a discussion on which I wish to comment I have forgotten what I was going to say!!!!!!!!

Of course it's slow. It's always been slow and intermittently grinds to a halt. Nothing new there. But nothing will be done when we have forum members who won't be convinced that there are challenges with the IT system and keep saying that the CMC is perfect.

It seems to almost grind to a halt in the late afternoon and often doesn’t recover by bed time. There is something very wrong when I can get a download speed of 70mbps but this site crawls along as if it’s on its last legs.

Perhaps it is time to start charging for the use of the forum, like a certain "fun" forum........?
The money raised could be used to by the latest super duper Sinclair Spectrum or whatever it is they are using.....

At present, the Sinclair C5 would be faster.

Windows 10, Windows 7, iOS11, iOS9 - I’ve got em all and they’re all slow.
I think it’s faring a bit better today than yesterday - so far.

I'm using a new-ish iMac running iOS10 with a good solid broadband connection but this site is the slowest of any I use regularly - and it seems to have got worse over the last few days. It's just barely acceptable at 6 a.m. but as the day progresses, it just gets slower and slower and keeps throwing up page-load errors. Totally frustrating.

Ditto...iMac 27" running High Sierra with HS Virgin fibre....like waiting for paint to set on this site.
and for someone in customer services to say to a previous post that his Windows 10 could be the problem...says everything about EG..
Relocate to Yorkshire..
