Ferry prices.

Do ferry prices go up the nearer to the date you book them like flight prices tend to do or do they remain static ? Normally we book well in advance but this time we are thinking of leaving it till later nearer the date just in case we change our mind, thanks.

    Having just checked ferries from Hull - Zeebrugge, out beginning of May and home 3rd week of June the club was dearer than P&O by £15.95, to be fair so was the other club.

    Direct Ferries and Ferrysavers were both £44.50 more expensive than P&O

    The best price once again for us was with Forces Travel, £25.95 less than either of the club's and £10 less than P&O.

    Normally our ferry would have been booked months ago but due to OH having an Op on his shoulder we have not yet booked anything but prices are pretty stable.

    You could do your own research on this. Just pick a route and periodically check the price.  The reason I say this is when leaving the U.K. (Harwich - Hook of Holland) it is often better to book early but sometimes it’s better to book the return just before you travel back.  Obviously during August it may be better to book a return.

    Not sure if the total price goes up, but any deposit does.We have a crossing to Spain booked for September and the deposit was £40, the same sailing now has a deposit around £240 and no choice of cabin.

    Transport of all kinds tend to be moving towards the idea that prices go up with demand so you could argue that it could become more expensive the closer to departure. However working on that principal if bookings are disappointing then it is possible that prices could be subject to special offers nearer to departure so unless you have a company that publishes prices and sticks to them come hell or high water prices could remain fluid.

    I monitored the Tunnel prices and found that they go up a week or so before departure but the rest of the year they remain static.

    With Brittany Ferries, if they are busy and demand for a particular crossing is good they will put the prices up.      If demand is low they leave them as is.     Late Jan 15, we wanted to go from Portsmouth to Santander.   We decided on the route in Oct 14, but OH won't let me book until about 10 days before the crossing date so that she can get an idea of the weather and sea state.    By mid-Jan when we booked the price had gone through the roof.   It almost doubled, so with accn the price of the single ticket for car and two adults was over £800.   But in Feb this year we did the same but on Poole/Cherbourg and the price stayed the same.
