Mud on Sites
Mud and how to cope with it! As a lot of sites are very waterlogged just now, can you offer advice on how to move your van on and off pitches without causing further problems.

My answer is not to go near muddy sites but to stay at home in comfort until things improve. Simples!

A decent tow car helps, low range gear box, track mats under Caravan wheels, leave tow car drive wheels on firm ground, understand how to actually drive using gearing capabilities. And a box for wellies.

Ah, but they do have mudslides in Europe, and earthquakes! Just think of poor Italy.

Wellies are an essential bit of kit for us unless endless days of sunshine are forecast. We had a difficult experience on the Warwick site, not realising that awning pitches were all on grass we were unable to pitch, (due to the waterlogged conditions) after several goes the warden found us a bit of tarmac.

No problem here this weekend. Just put an old towel down as a floor mat if you cannot be bothered with wellies or taking your shoes off.

As a farmer I use common sense. Dont go on grass when sodden even in a tractor, the long term benefit of my grass is more important. However if the club accepts your booking surely they have a responsibility to provide an appropriate pitch, whether grass or H/S

Which site was that, TDA?

Not a Club Site! It was an off road event, weekend in a rather nice grass field, then access to a superb off road course at Tong. It was actually very hot, note the lack of roof on the Jeep. I think the dogs had abandoned ship by this point, probably playing in another water splash somewhere! Sometimes mud can be great fun!

It could be helped if people took a moment before pitching, I find sometimes the C&CC hardstandings are slightly smaller than CMC pitches. Last time on a site local to us one guy made such a mess trying to reverse caravan onto pitch ( not bothered that the roadway was not wide enough to do so without leaving ruts on two pitches ! Another guy drove straight on to a pitch ruining the grassed corner, then decided to turn around and reverse on ( takes all sorts )

Sorry DD, our friend "Wotsername" took that button with her I'm sorry to say !!
P.S. get thee sen down Blandford way this August, kiddo !! -- 500 full size steam engines there for a Special Celebration this year -- just imagine the mud 'n muck they'll make if it's the slightest bit damp

Lark Valley CL, Bury St Edmunds. A well cared for CL. The ground was pretty sodden after all the rain and it rained Saturday morning and all day Sunday and Monday. Rather squeshy off the hards standings! I had it all to myself the first 2 days but it was full when I left this morning.

If the 'roadway' is too narrow I would expect many would do the same if they were using their vehicle to pitch up.
