Totally agree AD, I feel I can mannover my not short ( Hilux Invincible / Hymer 580 ) rig confidently in most situations but if and when circumstances dictate I'll engage the mover. It's not an embarrassing thing to do, it's common sense.
I'll even with the wardens permission park my ( must be kept clean ) towcar on an empty hardstanding.

Campsites all over the country are suffering from this elongated winter weather. I don't blame site operators for taking pitches out of use. ------- Wet cold and windy even in April.------ Makes a mockery of the wealthy Entrepreneurs who have convinced so many people that we are experiencing "Global Warming"

Have always respected pitches and not damaged them.
The advent of the motor mover appears a great tool to assist in preserving pitches.
On our first CAMC site (Exeter RC) with the caravan and a hired 4x4 we arrived at a wet pitch, just after a massive thunderstorm. I decided not to drive onto it with the capable tow car, so used the mover to gently traverse the grass leaving no mud. Whilst doing that, a hoofing great 4x4 with a twin axle caravan came down the site roadway, swerved off across the 4 empty pitches before us, continued off roadway for another 4 pitches, leaving skid marks and chunks out of the pitches. Why?? After plugging the EHU in, wind the steadies down, we popped off for supplies and returned to a dried out pitch where we parked the Disco with no sign of it being there, it ain't difficult is it??

Not at all, K. Global Warming results in higher temperatures which increase evaporation and consequently rainfall. More water in the atmosphere which must be deposited somewhere, and we are right in the path of that precipitation.

Just got back home from Lady Margaret's Park after a fairly wet week. All grass pitches closed due to saturation of the ground.
There's a written note on the board outside reception pleading with people not to drive on the grass. Simple you'd think but many grassed areas adjacent to pitches have been damaged because people haven't taken enough care when driving or reversing on or off their hardstanding pitch.0 -
Easter week when at Fery Meadows our outfit completely fills the pitch .... the awning guide lines were pegged into the no man's land grass on one side leaving me with JUST enough room for my car & Aquaroll etc. at the other side. It was impossible to park without clipping the grass somewhere even when doing a 47 point park.

Ditto...At a site recently, I was asked by the warden not to go on the grass opposite my HS pitch..which as MM as stated, just about enough room for car, caravan & awning (pegs in no mans land).....
Given that the road was just over an axle width..the pitch at just over 8 mtrs in length (no overhang allowed !!)...I suggested to the warden that he demonstrates how he would achieve this with my outfit at 41 feet in length...
I never did get a reply, but the next morning a row of cones had appeared on the grass opposite. Confrontational ??
FI..I had reversed slowly onto the pitch in low 4x4 lock with no obvious damage to grass....but I had been spotted !!!.

was talking to the family on the next pitch ( a service one naturally) and they had spent one night at Haggerston Castle on the A1. They said the mud was unbelievable and standing water on some pitches.

Having just returned from a CL where I got stuck briefly, avoiding pitch damage with the best will in the world is not always achievable.

Before attempting to pull off, if you are not 100% confident of a successful exit off the pitch. Speak to the site team. The pitches need to last a whole season and wheel spinning is destructive and once you start to spin it is too late!
(1) We recommend if using the motor mover to wind the jockey wheel right up so that it doesn't drive itself into the ground with mats underneath it supplied by us .
(2) If using a vehicle to pull a caravan, try to keep the driving wheels on the road, if this is not possible then STOP and go to the site team and seek advice.

narrow access roads are contributary to vehicles 'encroaching' onto grass on the opposite side pitches....
our van has a fairly short wheelbase and can be moved onto most pitches fairly easily, but larger MHs and large car/caravan combos will struggle....
i guess using the mover should help, but not everyone has one....
all grass here at M-in-M is pretty sodden, I wouldn't want to miss the edge of our pitch with a wheel....

The ground is very wet at the moment and there seem to be sites who are just not opening grass pitches. We were at Hurn Lance CAMC site earlier this week and at least on section of the site with grass pitches were coned off. Not a problem as there were plenty of empty HS pitches available.

The loss of income to CC, Cls and others must be very high this spring.Just see the move to H/S .Would not consider anything less mostly throughout the year. In summer you get the Awning mats creating sodden dead grass patches.Just go to St Davids from August onwards. Grass only pitches.

Been raining for about a week up here but there are only wet hard standings
Even in the dry I never go on grass

MnS tyres or winter tyres plus 4WD helps, but nothing helps more than just keeping off grass.
All grass pitch campsites down on the med and open just april to October are fine. They somehow now look a bit silly on British all year round campsites.
