Filling your Aquaroll

For many years now I have ceased using the rubber/clear tubed filler hose. Instead I cut a suitably sized piece of white rigid PVC pipe (as that used for draining away waste water from your washing machine ). ..About an inch down from the top of one end of said pipe, drill a hole right through from one side to the other side...Thread a shoelace through both holes and tie the ends together...At the site water tap, hold onto the shoe lace, drop the filling pipe down into the Aquaroll and present the other end over the water tap then before turning the tap on, wrap the shoe lace over the top of the tap and hold it in place with your hand..Proceed to fill with water..Job done ...The pipe will fit over every site water tap you are likely to find...Every time you have used it, wipe the exterior of it with a clean and previously unused sterlized wipe.

Bought one some 10 years ago, the warden I think at Hawes, had a side line making them. It also incorporates a toggle on the string, which you slide tight on the tap to hold it in place. I have seen them on sale in a few receptions since. Unless you have some spare tube, probably as cheap as making one yourself.

Much better than the tube, which was always blowing off and soaking me.😂

Get it from a plumber who installs drainage for washing machines as they always have offcuts.

Purchased similar from Burrs Country Park site if I recall correctly. Only cost a couple of quid but the best method yet of filling and Aquaroll.

I carry a couple of different lengths. Although most CMC taps are roughly the same height, they are often at different heights on other sites. CCC taps are generally quite high.

How difficult can it be to fill an aquaroll .......connect hose to tap ,put hose in aquaroll ,turn on tap and fill ,wait till aquaroll is full and turn off tap ,remove hose and tap fitting and wheel away aquaroll

chatting to fellow member who is waiting for you to finish is optional coolwink

Yep, made one of them donkeys years ago from some left over water pipe. Mine was in two telescopic pieces so was adjustable and collapsed for ease of packing in the van.

I'm amazed that people pay good money to buy them ready made, tbh.

I think the sterilising wipe is a bit OTT unless you’re going to keep it in a similarly sterilised container. How do you sterilise the inside of the pipe which is the bit in contact with the water? undecided

Yep, I've been using a home made pipe for years now. To answer HD, another advantage is that it fits over any type of tap fitting. Gone are the days when you had to carry a few different tap fittings to connect your hose.laughing

No, it’s about how to do it for newbies, not about saving pennies.

Fairly rare on the continent to be able to position an aquaroll under the tap.

In response to this fascinating thread - Mr VB tells me he has a selection of adapters to fit the end of his bit of hose pipe, but most CL taps are the same anyway. That’s an intriguing arrangement you have there 😉

Yes, that’s  what I used to do but then you have to wedge your foot under it to stop it rolling away which kind of defeats the object of a hands-free device. Anyway, I take enough junk away with me....but I admire the ingenuity.

I bought a rigid tube with an elasticated strap to simply hook it over the tap from the warden at Broadway for £3. Best purchase ever.

A cheap, very light, Aquaroll filling "tube" can be made from Innocent 1.35 litre, family size orange juice containers.

Chop off the bottom just proud of the bottom radius, this makes a neat funnel. Go a bit further and make a second one and push that into the first one for those longer reach applications, even add a third for the real challenges.

A short version serves with my van as the grey waste roll under's collecting funnel.

If you misplace it or give it away to an impressed fellow camper its no great loss.

Good sense of humour...A lot more hygienic than a rubber connection as less close on contact of tap..Rubber connections a no go nowadays.

     They can't be serious.....can they?

Love the way he witters on about the 'nice clean aquaroll' and then chucks his filler pipe on the muddy ground!
