Overnight stop Dunkirk to Lille.
Please could anyone help.
We are off next week down to sunny ( we hope ) italy
Driving from Calais to Dunkirk then N225 heading in Lille direction. Ferry arrive at Calais at 18.10.
Can anyone suggest somewhere to stay the night not too far from Dunkirk on that route. Your help and advice would be very much appreciated.

The motorhome Aire in Calais (Rue d'Asfeld) is ideal for a stop-over. At 10 Euro per 24 hours its secure, very quiet, near to the motorway and a short walk to the sea front. Alternatively if you'd prefer an EHU and an on-site restaurant, try the small site at the rear of Hotel Bal (Camping Bal) in Tournehem sur le Hen just north of St Omar. At 16 Euros its a gem that most people haven't cottoned onto yet. Enjoy Italy.

Hi Dave Thank you for that suggestion. We would like to drive for about an hour it the weather OK and ferry on time. Its good though to have that one on the back burner.

Campsite or Aire? For the former try Camping Kindervreugde, just over the Belgian border. Others will help you with Aires.

Than you eurotraveller. Either or will do providing its safe. Will find that one on the map.

Another one on the way to Lille is Camping Ypra at Kemmel. Both are in your ACSI book.
Mind you I would stay in Calais as your first reply suggested. I have a weakness for dinner at the Cote d'Argent restaurant on the seafront.
Regards.

Thanks for that. I have found it on line but not on ACSI Camping app. Is it on yours?

Thank you Dorset Driver. Can you recommend any of the Aires in Gravelines? Have you used any of them?

If you don’t mind paying tolls for a short stretch you could go to La Paille Haute (ACSI) which is about 1.5 hours. From there, cut across to Lille. Bien Assise is ACSI about half an hour but in the wrong direction but no big deal when you are on the (free) Autoroute.

Thank you Hitchglitch for your suggestion. There seems to be a few options. Just wondering what others do.

We go to the Italian lakes most years but always go the direct route via Reims, Metz, Strasbourg, Basel then through the St. Gottard tunnel but you have Autoroute tolls plus one vignette for Switzerland. Our second stop is usually Alsace then the following day you can get through Switzerland to Italy.
Many people go Belgium, Austria but you can go Belgium, Luxembourg and join the Autoroute near Metz. The section around Strasbourg and down to Basel is toll free.

Thank you Both Hitchglitch and Harryb. We are going to trundle Belgium, Luxembourg etc. We have a month so plenty of time. The campsites at Armentieres certainly look do-able. Thank you for that.

Probably a bit late now but the Aire at Bergues would meet your requirements. I used it twice last month, very handy for town and some interesting walks around the towns' old fortifications. Its a large Aire so usually plenty of space but there are no facilities. There are some photos on my record of my outward and homeward trips in Polarsteps here:.
