Oh dear! Sorry for anybody having to move out. I'm heading to Wales on Thursday and, although forecast isn't brilliant, keeping fingers crossed that it won't be too wet.

We were there end February into March when all the snow came down and the site was over half empty because of difficult travelling but the river never came up too high. We have had to evacuate twice and been cancelled three times in the last 15 years but that's the risk you take.
I had a look at the York webcam on Saturday when it was raining heavily and the river was way down. Just shows how a lot of rain in a short time can have a devastating effect and lead to flooding. The environment agency forecast a possible increase of up to a metre in the level of the ouse over the next 24 hours.

We returned from Ferry Meadows yesterday. The site could not have been wetter. Various grassed areas were water logged as were some of the roads. Fields along the side of the A1 were more than water logged, some were like lakes, big lakes at that.

Very poor signage, just a road sign at the main road junction saying road is closed. After trying to find anther road in had to go round and ignore the oblvious sign as the Only option of access. Only half way down what is a one way road given parked cars did we come across numerous caravans coming out, but without space for ins and outs.
Given that we had no idea the site was closed after telephoning yesterday pm, to be told they had no warnings in place, how could we know what the "Road Closed" sign meant given its standard to close roads for little or no reason these days. Surely not beyond the whit of the club to have a ready made board to stick out at the top of the road advising of the closurer. All the club managed to do today was add to the normal congestion of York.

The bit which says your on a big junction and lots of traffic and a club site booking, so what would you have done then given the sign didn't indicate where or what the closure was.
Most unhelpful and unconstructive response. You need to have experiances the issue of the Only access road, no where to stop etc etc.

not really W&J, if I saw a sign saying road closed I wouldn't go down that road.

Here's what I would have done - I’d have driven to somewhere I could park and then rung the site.
Oh, and I would not have written on a public forum that I’d been silly enough to drive on and ignore a 'road closed' sign.

have you read the CT guidelines W&J?
well certainly not got down a road that is signed as closed towing a caravan, so:
at a junction turned around, gone left or right?
stopped somewhere asap?
used my sat nav and recalculate route?
that's just a few off the top of my head

What, flooded again !!! Dead loss of a site.
I feel sorry for anybody having to cancel their visit. ----Still, Beechwood Grange is a far better site anyway with a nearby park and ride.. Hope people can switch their bookings to there. .K

yes, but while the latter wouldn't deter me normally, I wouldn't risk it for one moment if I was towing and might get stuck.

Sounds a bit like the Chatsworth site lane enterance no where to stop or park up , mind they do'nt have a sign ....just a big chain across the enterance .
We were there last weekend & still they come well before 1pm & park up & block the mini round about . 👎

It's no great surprise to most Yorkshire folks that York is flooded. It's the largest river in the county, and boy did we get some snow yesterday. There are roads closed all over round here.
Tip for anyone booked into RP at any time.......keep an eye on Ouse flood warnings! It's a regular occurrence.
I should think the Wardens were working flat out to keep everyone on site safe and get them off ok, let alone have to deal with those travelling. One glance out of car window anywhere around A1/York would tell its own story!

I expect it would also be difficult and confusing if approaching the site in such conditions. Not a good day for anyone, I looked at a photo of an upturned houseboat, hope the owners are safe. I expect some of the locals have had to leave their homes too, narrow streets, one way systems all a bit difficult in an emergency.
