Who decides...?

often on a lovely summer's evening sitting outside my caravan, a glass of a delicious robust red in my hand I'll let my gaze wander across the neighbouring outfits and play my usual game which to to see who has the most expensive outfit (car&van or MH) and try to guess how much they all cost. Newest car or van...Once I've have done that then I'll do the same for accessories, most expensive awning, barbecue, awning furniture, satellite dish...
One thing is certain, I'm certainly at the swallow end of the expense pool I think to myself as I look at my £2 disposable barbecue
You can all play this game, I'm thinking of making up some cards? Who remembers the I spy ones?
Question are CAMC outfits more expensive than seen on CCC sites? What about CL's. I really have no idea so just asking?

Did you check out the Council owned site as per my previous post? Maybe you’re just going to stay home.

Undoubtedly there are some wealthy people around, MM, and there are also some with very hefty finance packages funding their hobby. I’m sure all is not as it seems.

Your reply is interesting cariadon. There was a time when school holiday periods were fully booked at Pembrey as soon as the booking system opened each year. Local people, particularly families with children, enjoying the local facilities. I see that has now changed and there is plenty of availability. I wonder how the figures stack up for the Club. A full site at slightly cheaper rates or an empty site at the new expensive ones?
When we go away, we do not go to sit in our caravan or outside it drinking wine in the sun, enjoying the sites facilities. We go away to explore new areas or to visit attractions primarily. For that reason we will have to start looking for alternatives. To respond to someone's remark earlier, no, we do not have an expensive unit. We are penskoners, we have a 14 year old motorhome that we have had for several years and certainly do not intend to spend 'thousands' on a more up to date one.

Not sure if it is still operational as the website URL gives a 404 message.

With an early Easter I doubt that many would look for a longer stay using precious leave. When my children were young I would likely have gone away on the Thursday late afternoon and booked Thursday through to Tuesday and leaving on the Wednesday morning; 6 nights. That meant using a lieu day and no annual leave.

But those Bentley drivers would not under any circumstance stay on a CMC campsite. They would be staying in real 5 star accommodation as befits their wealth.
Yes, there are people who have deep pockets and those with huge credit card limits who enjoy Motorhoming and towing Caravans bought at enormous expense and good luck to them.---- Most of us though are more modest in our approach to what in effect is only a hobby.

what's the price of a car/caravan/MH got to do with the price of pitches...or anything else....
i think fuel is expensive, I think CC sites are expensive...so what?
id think that whatever outfit I had....
surely it's all about perceived value, not absolute cost?

There was a similar thread to this just a couple of weeks ago (I seem to remember about Hillhead prices from cabbiemick). In both cases the OP did the only sensible thing and booked elsewhere. It always seems to me absolutely futile to complain about club prices being too high and then book, and pay, them anyway! What possible incentive does that give the club (whoever decides) to examine their pricing strategy?
As a matter of fact, club prices seem to me pretty much the median, ignoring special offers which other providers are much more likely to offer.
But club membership gives access to the CL network which, although shrinking, provides a ready made and more economical alternative.

I think club sites are no longer competitive in many cases. Some have become gloomy car parks. Some of the facilities are well behind the times and so we use our own facilities. If the price increases over the last 5 years had been accompanied by improvements to landscaping and modernisation of shower blocks there would be some justification. The club membership fee used to represent good value because members had access to nice sites, but I think the club has failed hopelessly in this respect. We use more CL’s and commercial sites these days.

agree, throw in some THS sites from C&CC (and a fair slice of cheaper 'away games') and it's still possible to avoid the pain of peak CC prices...
mix and match is the name of the game....

They have, but they can't do all of the sites at the same time, it's an ongoing program. Some of couse may never be upgraded, at leat not by the club, as they are only managed. Others may require a lease extension before any investment.

It’s working for me OGS and is still operational with a new facility block.

Indeed there have often been 'complaints' on here about refurbishments taking too long, sites closed, or all sites being done in one area. It's an on going process and gets lots of stories in the magazine.
My fav site is currently closed till mid August.

Yes, Easy, and the link is the same as I posted on pg2.
It's not a bad looking site. It’s way down into the Park and much closer to the beach than the club site.

nearer to a lot of the Park Facilities, plus no need to pay to take the car into the park, They have done a lot of improvements over the last few years. The price is for up to 6 occupants. The only snag is that they do not have dish washing area for those who don't like washing up in their van.

Thanks Tinwheeler and EasyT. That's much more like it at £40 for 2 nights even though its still Easter school holidays. Sorted.
