Hi all,

We are out on the afternoon  boat Thu 31 May heading for Sarlat la Caneda and intend driving down and kipping for a few hours at Services somewhere below Tours. ( Cabin / Shower on boat ) My intended route would be Poitiers / Angouleme / Perigueux but have been advised there is heavy congestion around Perigueux due to major roadworks, Any advice or suggestion taking this route or down to Limoges / Sarlat.

Happy caravanning.

Driving through Perigueux is no fun even without roadworks. A better route is from Tours to Chateauroux to join the A20 - It's a toll free autoroute from there to Brive.

I'm using the same route but staying at Ouistreham overnight. Then having an overnight just over the river at Tours. Heading to a site East of Angouleme for 5 nights so will no doubt be going through Perigeux to Sainte Nathelene north of Sarlat.

I had the same warning re Perigeux on here and via Michelin gave me a route by-passing it to the south east from south of Brantome  on the D69

Remains to be seen what I do on the day

From Tours, I would always choose the D943 to Chateauroux, then toll free on A20 to Brive

I'll be doing same route from Ouistreham April 22-23rd on way to Spain

We went down that way a couple of years ago and, after an overnight at Ouistreham, we stopped at La Tête Noir at Buzançais, just off the D943 between Loches and Chateauroux. It worked well for us as a night stop and its just a few kilometres to the A20 south.

We remember it as a nice site with pleasant staff and adequate facilities by the River Indre.
