Hi can anyone recommend a quiet full service site in the south of France.

A site  close or on the cost would be preferred but inland not out of the question.

Thank you in advance for your recomedations.

We have stayed at this campsite http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/camping_robinson.html twice in recent years and out of season it's been quite peaceful. Its across the river from the other campsites in Marseillan Plage but the town is still walkable. It has access to a lovely sandy beach. We have tried quite a few beachside campsites over the years on the Med coast and Robinson has been one of the more peaceful ones. I think you will be hard pressed to find a quiet full service site on the coast but you might inland. Good hunting.

David K. planning on going to Camping Robinson following your recommendation in your blog. We will be there mid June do you think there will be spaces? We don't tend to book.

David will know better than me, but personally I would phone them the day before arriving.

We have not had a problem the twice we stayed there but Eurotraveller's advice is sound in giving them a ring. I have been turned away from other sites in Marseillan Plage but they are nearer to the town centre.

    David,

we are not really bothered but an hour either side of Cannes would be preferable.

It sounds as though one of the sites around Frejus is the right location - about 25 miles from Cannes. Camping France.com lists 33 sites there to choose from but I'm afraid I don't know which ones have serviced pitches. You might have to search their websites.

Nice Aire in Serignan Plage just a short stroll from beach.  I think there is a decent one in Marseillan Plage also but have not been there.

Club recommended site at Navarenx near Pau (home of the first ever grand prix) - run by Brits, shaded pitches, inexpensive, excellent facilities, very relaxed and quiet, lovely historic quiet market town adjacent, close to Pyranees. We would happily return - the only problem we had was it was full of Brits.... we go on hols to escape!

On our second visit to Marseillan Plage we tried to get onto Camping Beauregard Plage which is nearer the town centre and right on the beach. The young lady on reception was very nice but said they full but we were welcome to park up in the car park and take a proper pitch the next day. It is a nice site but when we started to look at some of the pitches that would be free the next day access to them seemed a bit tight for our 7.5mts motorhome so we decided to go back to Camping Robinson. It was late afternoon by the time we got to Marseillan Plage because we had the take a detour off the A75 which was closed further south because the carriageway had been washed away in  a very heavy storm a day or two before!

Sound advice in my opinion.  I enjoyed the Cote d'Azur when I went with a school friend and a tiny tent in 1964 but even then it was crowded.  My wife and I went again in 1991 and decided never again on account of the traffic and crowds.

It's not all bad. There are some lovely parts of the south of France. This is close by Camping Pascalounet.

Although I cannot recommend a particular site near Marseillan Plage I can recommend the area for hols - the sandy beach starts there and goes all the way round to Argeles about 60 miles (Argeles is also a nice area to stay if you want a beach holiday)..  When we lived in France Marseillan was about 45 mins away and we have had many meals by the little 'port'.  Even in season the town of Marseillan was not too busy although the sites nearby looked very busy and it could be a nightmare driving from there to Beziers on a Sat/Sun evening!  Sete, using a bit or licence described as the Venice of France (undecided),  is worth a visit.  As I am sure Val will endorse there are lots of sites inland in Languedoc, most will be in either the ACSI book or the Club's guide.  If you are going out of season booking is not necessary.  The Orb valley has a couple of lovely spots to stay (Roquebrun for one). The Corbierre area is lovely and has some great wines as does St Chinian.  Nearer to Spain sites near the Cathar castles make for an interesting stay.  The sad news of yesterday's shooting should not put you off but we liked Trebes and a walk on the banks of the canal and of course a visiit to the Cite at Carcassonne. Also Homps a nice quiet little place on the canal du midi is worth a visit and a meal on the banks of the canal.

Have to say we agree with you, we tried it last year in May and while there was nothing wrong with the site (it was lovely) we prefer the other side of Marseille. So in September we found a lovely site/sites near Agde on the River Herault much better for us, plenty of cycling and lots to see and do in the area, will definitely go there again.

Might you get to  Camping Robinson at Bourges?  But a good site guide will give you the options if you give up before you quite get there.
