So expensive
just went on to book hillhead caravan site in devon for 12 nights in august with the grandchildren but after the price was so unbelievable 764 pounds this is outrageous how can this be justified from the club no wonder we are losing members and sites never full we have now booked park resorts same dates for 398 pounds

Hill head does look pricey. No idea on other sites in the area. How many grandkids?
For two adults and two children for 12 nights is £630.
For 2 adults and 4 children for 12 nights is £752.
Golden Sands Park holidays advertise £356 for 2 adults. No EHU available and 6m x 6m pitch

Trewan Hall in Cornwall is a far better place to take children than any of the Club sites down here - has swimming pool, games area, open fields, free wi fi, entertainment, and 36 acres of woodland, playing fields and garden - and will charge £320 in August for 2 adults and2 children under15 . Read the reviews.

Sorry. I was pricing for a week.

So around £50 a night for 2 adults and 2 kids on a (non serviced) pitch on a "premium"(?) site in August in Devon....
We don't go to the South West often.........how does that compare with alternative holidays in the area....?

Just priced Globe Vale in Cornwall for 12 nights, peak period, 2 adults, 2 children, an awning on a full serviced pitch (you can choose grass or hardstanding). The total comes to £552.
Full Serviced pitch £34 a night (including 2 adults)
Children £5 a night each
Awning £2 a night
The site has no pool but has a good children's play ground and a small bar that serves food. Well looked after/ excellent site with very friendly owners. (P.S You would pay £2 extra per night for dogs). Price structure is different to CAMC sites, and it would be cheaper for a non-full serviced pitch (I think about £4 a night cheaper).
Just to give you some idea....
I guess you are paying extra for the pool at Hillhead.

No wonder I use CLs.

I think it's wrong that the club should increase prices so much over school holidays.
Through no fault of our own we have had to move a six night break so that it now covers Easter.Same site, same pitch, same number of nights for just two adults, £50 more.
I feel so sorry for families with children these days.A caravan holiday used to be so much more affordable in years gone by.

The club does indeed raise prices during school holidays, but very often not by as much as many of the commercial site chains, particularly in July and August.
But the OP has done the right thing in deciding, if it seems too expensive, to look for an alternative. All too often in the past folk have come on CT complaining about prices but still booking anyway, which to me is pretty pointless and gives the club little incentive to re-assess it's pricing policy.
As always, the best solution is to vote with your wheels if you're not happy.

You'll also be paying for the "free" daily adult and children's entertainment at Hillhead, plus the two pools, shop, games room and restaurant/bar serving food and drink including takeaways for longer hours in the summer. No extra charges for dogs, awnings etc.
I've just tried to look at nearby Beverly Park in Torbay and it's fully booked for touring pitches through most of August although you could go non electric for just under £300 (plus extras!) That's per week, two adults.

We have to go in the school easter break for the first time ever, 18 nights away just in Scotland. OH looked at the Club sites and was not impressed with the prices!
Then she looked at the CCC prices and found that they have a shorter peak period at easter, and that in Scotland it is not peak season at all, so we have booked with them. Lower prices over easter, plus we still get the over 60s discount, so even better.
And we get to try some different sites in different areas. All we need now is some decent weather.
We were going to try Hillhead last September, purely for the position, but the price then was still beyond our budget. We don't need a pool or any of the other extra facilities so no point in paying for them.

Perhaps Hillhead pricing should be transferred to York and other hotspots, supply and demand might reduce the pressure.
