David, I realise it's personal preference (and you're a fan of SPs) but I wouldn't let the availability (or not) of a certain pitch type be the deciding factor in visiting somewhere or not..

could you not have 'slummed it' for a few days...?wink....in exchange for everything else the site has to offer?

conversely, we wouldnt dream of booking a SP, just another (significant) cost to the ever increasing spiral.......undecided....and we wouldn't need it eitherwink

Which goes to prove once again that we all make different choices and do things our own way. Long may it be so.

When it comes to our main hols we will always do our best to get SP whether in UK or abroad. For us it is a cost worth paying in return for less chores and more time to relax on holiday and in the overall cost of 2 and a bit weeks hols sur le continent with ferries, fuel for 2000 miles plus, days out, some meals out and so on the added cost isn't that significant, less than 10% of our holiday budget. However i accept and As others have said it is all down to personal preference and will also happily stay on a non sp pitches especially if we want a simple low cost weekend break. However back to the OP, you pays your money and takes your choice, there is a world outside the CMC..... thankfully!

Sorry BB, what does types of pitch and one's personal choice have to do with this thread?

    to paraphrase:

the OP is questioning the 'nuances' of the expense at this sitewink

Surely its only expensive if you don't want to be there.

This discussion is closed pending review as we have had numerous reports. We will be reviewing this and I will advise later today.

Having reviewed the discussion we have removed off topic posts. If arguments continue it will result in those involved receiving a temporary ban as we need to ensure we all follow the Community Guidelines and that the community is free from arguments and a friendly place to be. This is not an action we want to take so if you feel a post is not in the spirit of the community please report this to us to investigate, rather than get involved in an argument on the discussion. We would appreciate it if everyone can abide by the guidelines and help Club Together be welcoming and friendly as I know this is what the majority would like and do not want to put off others from joining the conversation.

With regards to the OP, I have spoken to my colleagues in site operations and they have advised that he fees that we charge our members are very considered as we are a members club, here to serve our members, but we are also a business, and we need to make money in order to reinvest back into the network.  Demand for pitches is naturally higher during certain times of the year. In the main summer months, June to September and Easter, more people want to come out to site and enjoy the wonderful network of sites; and of course the longer bank holiday weekends are a natural draw for many. However in the cooler months, less members want to come out and demand is therefore reduced. In the quieter periods, we regularly run our sites at a loss just to keep them open and provide this facility for our members. So at some point in the year we need to be able to recoup the losses, and it’s during the busier months when demand is stronger that we then tend to charge a higher fee. This is a normal business model for so many industry sectors, not just travel related ones. Supply and demand causes price increases in order to generate increased income so that we can ensure that the sites simply break even each year. Any additional income generated will then be reinvested back into the network to keep facilities up to standard.
