Arrival times

or some other decision.
Presumably "yes" sometimes.
Which is why we see early arrivers.
Let's formalise that and make flexible arrival & departure club policy.............

I don't understand your point your point there BoBo, does the other friendly club stop you from paying for a night when you have no intention of staying so that you're not denying that pitch to someone else?

I wouldnt worry about it, if it needs explaining then the point has already been lost.....

Even having set arrival and departure times which are adhered too cannot overcome any potential encounter of a MH who decides to go out for an afternoon. Said MH would, of course, be wise to avoid the "arrival time" rush.

....that's lovely, so am I, and so do I.......
but it was specifically CS' post that caused me to reply....again, if an explanation is required you've missed the point,.....too.
actually, I didn't think it was that subtle.....oh well....onward...

ive given examples in the past about two particular, very busy, sites we regularly use that dont have 'arrival times' (or specifically 'departure times' that i can remember) yet manage steady streams of intake daily without impacting in the slightest on those departing or those leaving for the day, in car or MH (and there are very many....)...
how do they do it....?
one is on the île de Re, has a narrow entrance off a busy main road...vans, despite using the same barrier as exiting vans, are dealt with quickly at reception and ushered onto site as soon as they arrive, meaning no queue...and no obstructions
the other, in Spain, has a short entrance way, again off a very busy main road where queuing would not be sensible, but this time there are separate entrance and exit barriers. entering vans are waved directly through the barrier into a holding area (actually just a row of parking spaces) and guests walk back the 50m to reception, are given a map to stroll around the site and choose a pitch from those marked on the map, returning to complete formalities and then drive to the pitch....several vans and guests can be processed at the same time, yet no extra vans are driving round the site looking for the 'best pitch'....only after they have agreed the pitch with reception is any driving allowed....and with the separate exit barrier, no impact at all on leaving customers...
its the concept of forcing customers to queue outside (perhaps in an entrance road) waiting for a specific 'opening time' that causes the congestion issues highlighted in this and similar threads...pensioners and post offices comes to mind....
on the sites ive mentioned, there are never queues.....customers are just welcomed as they arrive, the process begins and holidays are enjoyed....
im sure there are many 'issues' that dont allow this same process to be used here......allowing vans inside the barrier before theyve paid must send shivers down the spine....letting a customer onto a pitch at (say) 10:00 probably does the same....despite there being plenty of vacant pitches...
happy to abide by the 'rules' but just illustrating that it doesnt have to be like this

This thread has had me thinking about the times we have arrived somewhere at an odd hour, or set off home at an odd hour. And the occasional journey via hell (hell being for this purpose, linear with few detours!) that upset the best laid of plans!

Ahem ---- Who is forcing customers to arrive at a site far too early, The earliest arrival time is well published in both the handbook and on-line, so if they arrive at the wrong time, either the customer cannot read or cannot tell the time. It's so easy to plan your journey to arrive after the earliest arrival time. It's the CMC rules which all CMC customers have signed up to. ---if going to a CMC site follow their rules. -- Simples.!!

I agree K. The Club has very proscribed rules about arrivals and departures, and on popular busy sites they are probably the only way a site can be managed. I don't subscribe to a blanket enforcement across all sites, all of the time though, and this is where members will disagree.
Some want a blanket enforcement, no concessions at any time, under any circumstances policy. While others prefer what they consider a more common sense, adaptable approach that allows some flexibility if bookings and other conditions allow. Where you stand on this will be an individual preference. For some, that preference may make Club Sites an unattractive, not worth joining choice, particularly if you have set times you can tour such as weekends and busy holiday periods only. I know that when we were working, we seldom used Club Sites because we found private sites were much more flexible, and we could maximise our time away.
Classic example: booked in one night at a Club Site in SW (break in travel) We were badly held up (three hours on M5, standing traffic, no way off) so I phoned Club Site to explain we couldn't arrive until after 8pm. No late night arrivals area, so no we wouldn't be allowed on. So, I phone a CL, oh dear, yes of course we have a pitch, don't worry what time you arrive. We stayed three nights, and used it on way back home, and it is now our regular overnight stop.
Rigid inflexibility does not attract prospective members, and the Club no doubt knows this, hence what we term Wardens discretion. If it can be accommodated easily, without detracting from the enjoyment of others, or putting strain on staff, then it should be considered. Staff should have the empowerment to supervise a Site how they think most productive, safe and reasonable. Rigid inflexibility is not always the best way forward.

No ones forcing clients to wait outside, the client is causing the problem.
Business brain in action !! The customer is always wrong.
It's how you let him know it !!
Happy caravanning.

Personally from my experiance of arrival times most wardens, are quite flexible where possible, on arrival times, the perceived "problem" of having to wait to get on some sites until a specific time normally i have found down to the amount of staff on duty, and the legal requirement for breaks,,no site is the same across the network with how these can be managed ,and of course has got worse since the WTD was introduced

When travelling a distance arrival timing is not an exact science and whilst a certain degree of adjustment is feasible by reducing one's cruising speed, there are limits and no, there aren't always available lay-bys.

Very rarely do we arrive on site early especially if we have to travel a fair distance from home, as long as we arrive before dark we are happy, When we are on site I have observed an early arrival circle round a site looking for the perfect pitch ( is there one). Then after they have had to pitch somewhere, about half a dozen will leave. Does not always pay to be early.

Did he/she tell you they were looking for the perfect pitch? Maybe they were just selecting the best that was available and were very happy with that.
Have you never driven past a pitch and then changed your mind and circled back to it? I know I have.

Lol, and +1

Yes, go and park up somewhere, there is always an excuse for arriving early, when in fact there is no excuse.

We don't subscribe to that perfect pitch nonsense. I have known us be only outfit on site at some places we stay, and we move pitch each night just for the hell of it........easy in a small MH!
We had bottom level of Bolton Abbey to ourselves one short break, we moved about then as well, but don't tell the Wardens!

Sorry, no doubt you where on the m20 bowling along, should have taken a break on the services simple.

Hang on a minute Dave a few questions -
one moment the site is : about 30% occupied should we have been turned away?
now it's: half empty
so question 1) which is it?
question 2) you signed up to abide by the rules?
question 3) Not forced or anything?
question 4) why do you think the rules don't apply to you?
