Spanish Campsite in Catalonia

We are going to Spain for 2 weeks in June, and from there on to Dordogne for another 2 weeks.   We have a campsite booked in Dordogne but cannot find anything suitable in Spain.   We are hoping to go somewhere in Catalonia as far down as Begur/Tamariu/Llafranc.   We do not require Clubhouse of entertainment.   We would like a smallish, quiet site within walking distance of village or beach.   We are a retired couple with no pets or children.   Does anyone know any nice campsites in this area?

    I doubt you'll find a small quiet campsite within walking distance of a beach.  Beachside sites tend to be larger, and quite busy, sometimes noisy affairs.  However, it's worth a look at the Eurocampings website (not Eurocamp the tour operator) as they have a selection of Great Little campsites. One of them Camping La Plana is near to the beach to the north of Tarragona which is a lot further south than your chosen area.   I can recommend Can Coromines, which is one of their selection, but it's about 4 km from the nearest town and up in the hills, rather than near a beach.

    In June, I think you find even the larger sites quiet. There certainly won't be much entertainment if any. I tend to agree with David to look in the Bay of Roses area, Camping Amfora may well suit you but I certainly would not rule out the larger sites further south like El Delfin Verde

    We have used Camping Amfora during May/June for the last 3 years, the first year it was lovely only 50% full, however the last 2 years its been very busy with folk queuing outside waiting to get in. The Dutch and Germans use this site for most of May and June as they get a good deal with camping cheques. While there is no entertainment during the week, Friday and Saturday nights there is and its very noisy up until midnight. Not a small site by any stretch of the imagination. Great site though.

    You mentioned Llafranc; it's one of the most refined delightful spots on the Costa Brava. There's  a campsite of on the clifftop above the town - Kim's Camping. We've been there twice but only in Spring before it becomes busy.

    I was going to mention the bay of roses as many on CT, incl us, have camped there....plenty of beach side sites to choose from and the lovely  L'escala to visit.

    a tad further on is L'estartit, which was recommended to us althought we haven't made it yet...

    ....but we have used Blanes (we were actually just south of the river) and this is a nice town to spend a few days....albeit an hour further in from Begur....

    Hi chasncath

       Kims Camping looks ideal for us and we've stayed nearby in Begur in a villa and enjoyed Llafranc.  We have been considering this site but friends mentioned an awkward entrance.   Can you remember what its like?   We have a fairly long unit  -  car + caravan = 12.5 meters and sometimes have difficulty with tight camp entrances.

    TM, I've just 'walked' the entrance road using googlemaps street view (an invaluable tool). Looks fine to me, have a look...

    The original entrance was via the town which involved a humped-back bridge and then a steep climb up to the campsite. We understand that the entrance at what was the back of the site is now the main entrance.

    There are lovely coastal paths in both directions from Llafranc; an easy one to Calella Palafrugell, and a strenuous one to the lighthouse at Cap Sant Sebastia.

    It's a steep walk down into the town - even steeper coming back - and the small bay, promenade, cafes and restaurants.

    Sorry I'm a few days late, but I thought I would add my thoughts.  I've lived in Catalonia just off the Costa Brava for over 40 years and caravanned for quite a few.  My daughter also worked in some of the campsites during her holidays from university.

    I personally would recommend Las Palmeras in Sant Pere Pescador.  It's smaller and more personal than L'Amfora, which is very near,, and though the Amfora is right on the beach, Las Palmeras has a back gate and short walk, and I do mean short!  L'Amfora has all the big installations, but Las Palmeras would be more peaceful - or it should be at that time of year.  It's a very flat area with quiet roads so cycling is easy - if you don't like hills.

    Thank you Anny for your recommendation.   We will certainly take a look at Las Palmeras.
