A very good evening to all.

I'd be interested in other members experiences with the clubs insurance service.

In particular the windscreen repair/replacement side.

This morning we had a large stone hit the windscreen and it left a 10mm round chip.

Contacted CMC insurance service and was pointed at National Windscreen service. So far so good.

Ended up speaking to someone at PSV Glass and Glazing on the phone. This is about 12.40.

They sent me an email form to print, fill in and then scan and return as attachment.

I phoned them again at 1.15 to see what was happening. Received an email saying to leave it with them and they would get back to me.

2 more emails later, last one 4.32, and still waiting for some indication of when (if?) anyone will be coming to look at it.

When CC used Autoglass they were excellent. Attended when they said, replaced the screen and charged me £75 instead of the £125 I was expecting.

Problem is we are on the road Monday so not much time to get it fixed.

Anyone else have experience of windscreen damage repairs?

How would you do all that if you were away from home ? Just get your windscreen fixed and send a claim in. Today.

PVS rang back. No knowledge of contact. This after 4 emails and as many phone calls. Cowboys.

Phone number on policy gets you to a CMC desk at the underwriters? Anyway Laura confirmed that their authorised repairer is National. Called them and their local depot, Tamworth, will arrange an appointment. Going to be next week now so there's a bit more to-ing and fro-ing to go yet. We are in Hunstanton next week so the Kings Lynn depot will have to deal with it. What's the betting I will have to book it from that end?

As a windscreen could cost £600-£800 I'm not taking the chance of CMC/Devitts/Equity not paying out.....

I would phone CMC and complain but, what do you know, not open Saturday/Sunday. It can wait.

National Tamworth called. Can do Wednesday. So asked them to pass it to KL depot and contact me there. Interestingly the man said the excess would be £20. Don't know where that comes from. Make it up as they go along.

    To Be Continued.....

(It all lends credence to the old saw "You never know how good an insurance/breakdown company is untill you need to use it")

    Hi bertb,

Thank you for posting. One of my colleagues in our Insurance department has picked up on your post and has asked me to send on his reply:

Sorry you have had a frustrating experience with your vehicle – I will look into this with our brokers and find out how this situation occurred.

Thanks Hannah. David sent me an email and National repaired the chips on Wednesday.

I had a call from National Monday before we left confirming Wednesday and a nice young man arrived in the time slot and repaired both chips. They had a new windscreen ready if needed so all in all a good job done.

The excess was £10 after all.

I will add National Windscreens to my list of repairers!

    Thanks
