Are you long and hard or short and sweet?
When we took the kids with us and only had 2 weeks hols we used to drive none stop from Calais to El Delfin Verde. (It's a long way) The main problem was getting everyone to pee at the same stop, there was always someone who wanted to go just after we had
set off againe. Life was hard. Now we travel about 180 to 240 miles a day and life is much sweeter. What's it like for you?

The things you will do when you are younger. I once left our home in Buckinghamshire with two kids in the back and drove virtually non stop down to St Tropez in 24 hours.Then we only had a car and no caravan to pull. We used the short Dover/Calais ferry as our only real rest point. Now I find 250 miles more than enough.

I work on the range of the fuel tank. Once led a convoy of MH's to Poland where I planned the route based on the range meaning some days 6 hours driving, the longest was 12 hours through East Germany into Poland.
Still base it on range but pee breaks around 2-3 hourly as my bladder demands
An old trick I learned from working in the middle east is to fill the tank early morning as you get more fuel due to underground tanks being cooler

I did a similar thing driving from near Wigan to Sete on the Mediterranean coast. 1000 mile in 24 hours with two young children and my wife who didn’t drive at the time. Did the same journey in reverse 2 weeks later and lived to tell the tale!

A lot depends on the type of road and the amount of congestion. When towing, I would reckon on around 350 miles a day is plenty and 500 solo. Knocking a hundred of both those figures makes it less strenuous and adding a hundred turns it into an ordeal.

3 x 2 hour stints a day is more than enough when towing these days and on motorways that will get you 200 - 250 miles comfortably. In the carefree days of youth also did stupid mileage but not now. Off to Italy now, fortunately not through France; Belgium,
Germany, Austria route for us.0 -
I recently did over 320 miles in one go in France but even on motorways it was hard going. 200 is a much better target with tolerance either way plus the old addage "an hour before lunch is worth 2 after lunch"

When the volcano erupted in April of 2010 and all the flights were cancelled, my daughter and grandson were stranded in Barcelona. We conferred on the phone a few times and eventually she discovered that she and son could get a coach from Barcelona to Toulouse. I quickly booked the car ferry from Dover to Dunkirk, left home on Friday night, drove 675 miles to Toulouse, arriving at the coach station at 5pm Saturday and met up. We stayed overnight at Premiere Class in Toulouse then drove home on the Sunday, arriving home in the early hours of Monday. What a way to spend a weekend.

When towing last time in Europe, I think my biggest journey was about 320 miles in a day. Often it would be less than that. After saying that, this last Saturday we visited our daughter in Falmouth. From home to Falmouth and back, together with a ride out to Pendeen for lunch etc., total miles for the day was a smudge under 650 miles - we weren't towing though. 😀😀
