Nice Site near San Sebasian, any ideas?

Off to Santander next weekend on ferry. Last year we went West and stayed at the club site near St Vincente. We did lots of touring around the Picos which was good. This year we want to visit San Sebastian, for a few days before coming back slowly via France.

Any ideas? The club site further East is too close to Santander. The other club has one at Zarautz, with mixed reviews. ACSI has one near Deba. Has anyone got any recomendations? Nothing really tempts me! We could go into France to Larouletta, but there must be nice sites surely? Any ideas please!

    Does nobody know this area?

Booked club site near Santander, Player de Joyel, for a few days this morning. The other sites didnt sound right.....this time of year there is nothing worse than sites open, but in winter mode, hope this one will be ok!

We have visited both sites, but not in the last few years.

Playa de Joyel will be better than Zaruttz at this time of year, as it is effectively adjacent to a 'resort' frequented by the Spanish, so the area should be busier than Zaruttz, but its still very early in the season, so it wont be busy.

If the weather is less than ideal, the campsite at Zarrutz is at the top of a hill/cliff, and the last time we were there, there was horizontal rain!

At Joyel, I would keep to the top of the site (the part nearer the beach), as last time we were there (near the bottom fence), our German neighbours had a problem with a Minx/Ferret or the like, chewing everything in sight in the engine compartment of their VW campervan.

San Sebastion is a great place to visit, and you can catch the train from Zarrutz, so I would not be put off the site at Zarrutz, for a short stay

Last year we stayed at Igueldo nr San Sebastian for a couple of nights. Site OK although receptionist a bit off hand. Main attraction is bus terminus just outside gate and regular bus into San Sebastian until late evening. Means you can do justice to Pinchos and wine. Previous year when we had caravan we stayed at site near Biaritz and drove into San Sebastian. Also stayed at Player de Joyel which is big site but OK. Planning on going back to Igueldo in September for two nights to visit San Sebastian again.

We've stayed at Playa Joyel site, it's very convenient for the Santander ferry. The campsite is massive, and in Spring you'll have plenty of choice of pitch. The pitches near the entrance are nearly all semi residential, but drive a bit further into the site and it will be a lot quieter. The beach there is absolutely beautiful. Noja itself is pretty uninspiring, but has a decent supermarket for everything you'll need.

San Sebastian is superb, you'll easily spend a full day there and not see it all.

The Igueldo campsite is very convenient, if a bit overpriced. The pitches are tight, and were muddy when we were there, but no real problem. I wouldn't recommend driving into San Sebasrian, parking is very expensive, much cheaper to get the bus from outside the campsite.

We really enjoyed our stay in the area, have a great time.

    Oops! 😱

Just realised this OP was from nearly a year ago, so my feedback is a bit late.

Hope you had a great time.😊
